INFO

It´s Casual has been performing since the late ´90s throughout Southern California. The summer of 2002 found the pair outside the state´s borders, as part of the Vans Warped Tour, promoting its debut, Buicregl. In 2004, It´s Casual took a couple days off (yes, literally a couple) to record its second album, Stop Listening To Bad Music. The album found Solis upping the ante on his straightforward delivery of life in the large city.

After returning home from a summer tour in 2006, It´s Casual entered the studio with producer Sergio J. Chavez for a third album session. The resulting ten-song collection, The New Los Angeles, finds the band more focused than ever, with its hard-hitting, riff-packed hardcore punk/metal delivery that rubs shoulders with the best of Black Flag, Fu Manchu, Motorhead and Bl´ast.

INFO

12. Take me home [5:36]

Info

Bomberenea

Info

RIP KC recorded their fifth LP in summer and fall of 2006, in the forgotten village of Quintanilla de Somoza, León, Spain. The songs on “Spinguolf” (Alone Records/Influx) are as stylistically free as its title suggests. Burying any labels and classifications and allowing the subconscious to flow, RIP KC have always had a clear objective during rehearsals as well as during recording: preserve on tape the musical crossroads where, halfway through this decade, they are currently standing.

The strategy is this: place microphones to hear, among bells ringing and the barking of known and unknown dogs, the outcome of the sessions of a group liberating its own sound. There’s no catch, morning, noon, and night, at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, their songs emerge with a necessary closeness for the process to capture the moment and as the experimental vehicle, in a way that the recording is synonymous with reality. It’s about capturing this directness and spreading it everywhere.

Half times, recited passages, on “Spinguolf” the tracks follow one another without complexes to celebrate frames of mind. Sweet guitars, airs of keyboards, winding bass, and free drums are the instruments for a trip to faithfully transmit who these three musicians from Vallecas, Spain, influenced as much by Eskorbuto as by John Coltrane, really are. It’s about giving free rein to the primitive instinct that turns music into that something that is so difficult to describe.

“Spinguolf” does not go beyond its previous work “Obvious and Bleeding.” It is simply a continuation, reflecting what we already knew: RIP KC reinvents itself with every recording. Refusing to remake their previous album, praised by critics and fans alike, on “Spinguolf” the band reforms a new incarnation of their punk spirit, an attitude towards music that does not require saturated guitars to reflect that musical and emotional freedom which led to the invention of rock and roll so long ago.

cable last call dvd

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Info

If not for Cable, there may have never been Isis…or Red Sparowes. Bassist Jeff Caxide played on Cable’s eponymous 1996 debut then left to join Isis. Cable’s influential 1999 album Gutter Queen was release number 26 on a then-fledgling indie label in Boston called Hydra Head. Many noisecore bands copied Cable’s formula for success, and some, with the right PR push and radio play, overshadowed their masters left in the lurch. So when these Connecticut noiseniks finally broke up for good last year (as opposed to their patented ‘indefinite hiatus’ after nearly every album), they would’ve gone out with merely a whimper if not for the Last Call CD/DVD sounding the official death knell. The 15-track CD is a true career cross-section: one new song, a hearty six-pack from their final show, one song from each of their seven studio releases, and one fan-recorded live nugget. The DVD boasts the obligatory live set plus a fascinating hour-long documentary that chronicles the rise and fall of the Cable empire. The title track is the new one, and much like Nirvana’s unearthed swan song “You Know You’re Right,” it’s quite poignant for all the right reasons: immediately recognizable yet haunting guitar chords, agonized-by-life vocals, and plodding drum beats that have been honed to a sharp edge by ignoring the trends. The live set (from a late ’04 benefit show at CBGB’s) is utterly tight and reportedly the most jaw-dropping of that night. Most of the six cuts are culled from their most recent album, 2004’s Pigs Never Fly (with “It’s My Right to Be an Asshole” and the title track being particularly incisive), though older tracks “The Sunday Driver” and “Missoula” dovetail perfectly with their newer, syrupy sound. Bassist Randy Larsen nails down the low end with railroad stakes on the studio track “Human Landfill” (from Pigs) and “Battle of the Asses” (from 2003’s Never Trust a Gemini), and guitar duo Bernie Romanowski and Ben Cowles show off their Southern-rock chops on “Buy Me a Drink” (from 2001’s Skyhorse Jams) and the inimitable “Black Leather Mustache” (from 2001’s Northern Failures). The Craw-like “Clinton St. Blues” (from Gutter Queen) and “Wireless” (from 1996’s Cable) offer a slice of their early sound that defined noisecore in the late ’90s, and a video-camera bootleg of “Gutter Queen” exemplifies the band’s seething volatility. The DVD’s movie, also titled Last Call, is not only one of the finest documentaries in recent years, but it’s also much better produced than any big-budget MTV/VH1 equivalent on the market. Directed by Ed Ballinger (bassist of label roster mates Slacks!), the film traces the band’s history through interviews with early promoters, friends, and former bandmates. Isis’ Caxide gives a particularly humorous account of Cable egging on the Dillinger Escape Plan to the point of violence. Playing dive bars, sleeping on floors, and living the life of the rock ‘n’ roll pauper is/was the status quo for Cable, and it’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for its members. In the meantime, however, Last Call may be the most perfect and definitive retrospective of a truly great band.

Big Business - Here Come the Waterworks

Tracklist

2. Hands Up
3. Shields
4. Grounds For Divorce
5. Another Fourth Of July... Ruined
6. Start Your Digging
7. I'll Give You Something To Cry About
8. Another Beautiful Day In The Pacific Northwest

Info

Big Business is a duo made up of Jared Warren (vocals, bass) and Coady Willis (drums, vocals). Warren was also once in the amazing sludge driven juggernaut that was Karp and Willis has previously spent time in Murder City Devils. While I was a fan of the duos first record Head for the Shallow, I was left feeling a bit under whelmed by it. I felt like with all that potential that the album should have been absolutely mammoth sounding. I mean, it sounded huge and it was most definitely loud and sludgy, but it wasn’t quite there yet. All of this has been taken care of on Here Come the Waterworks. Maybe that time they spent playing, touring, and recording as part of the Melvins had something to do with it, I don’t know. Regardless of whether that’s the case or not, the album is magnificent and blows their debut out of the water. On top if it being ridiculously crushing, it sounds like a more complete and fluid effort as well. I know it sounds like I am dogging on their debut a bit, but really...their debut was excellent too. However, they've somehow managed to make that effort seem average in comparison.

Info

Sweet Cobra's influences draw from His Hero Is Gone, Black Flag and Unsane to the more rock oriented Helmet and newer rock staples High on Fire. Each of these influences can be heard with variations of others, all delivered heavy-hearted and mad as hell. Rock rhythms mixed with hardcore breakdowns and metal guitars allows this band to defy any mold or predictions. Features ex-members of Suicide Note, The Killer and The Killing Tree.

Mahakala - Demo EP

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tracklist

1. A Shovel Stuck In Teeth [2:08]
2.Pool Of Kerosene [3:25]
3. Bloodspit [2:40]
4. Streaming Guts (with Costas of Dark Star) [4:29]
5. Dictated Homicide Of A Retard [2:49]

Info

MAHAKALA were formed in 2005 by Smirnoff (vox, also in SLAVEBREED), Big Badda (guitar, ex-HEAVIERTHANGOD), Jim Bob (bass, also in SCUMS37, TASTE OF GRIEF) and Costas (drums, also in LORD13, HEAVIERTHANGOD). Influenced by old school punk, early heavy rock and bands of the stoner/sludge rock genre, the athenian sludge-sters recorded their first, self titled, and released it on the Spanish underground label Parade Records.

Performing live, in the first Summer Rock Festival (GR) and at several local venues along with swedish doom metallers GRAND MAGUS, british post hardcore rockers TAINT and greeks ENGINE-V, ROCKING BONES, SABBAH NAVAHTHANI, TARDIVE DYSKINESIA, ONE BLOCK SOCIETY, GOD.FEAR.NONE, SLAVEBREED, NOISELUST, O.C.B, LOW GRAVITY, SEMEN OF THE SUN, MADLEAF and STONEDEVILS amongst others, MAHAKALA gained the likes of all audiences and good comments by the local press.

The quartet's sound finally turned into a SABBATH-ically groovy sludge 'n' roll combined with elements of modern extreme sound and minimal doomy riffage. MAHAKALA, being a band of barely one year of existence, keep on performing, composing and recording brand new material for their upcoming full length album and -eventually- hiting the stage...

The band was founded in 1998 and have a bunch of releases out (7", 12", CD, splits,
cassette...) in the d.i.y underground on various labels. (Release the bats, Bridge,
Insect, Crucificados, Fuckedupsunday, Dempe...)

Since the very beginning back in 1998 THE JAMSESSION has been on a neverending quest for doing our own thing, which has lead us on strange paths in heavy and xperimental music.Going thru the whole catalogue of releases you'll find everything from insane hardcore, progressive punk and doomy dark metal. It was never our goal to make it as strange as possible, it´s just our way to deal with the smalltown boredom and the result of 5 different individuals trying to express themself as one unit. Our latest recordings is by far our darkest, yet still progressive an intense. At the time it
seems like we're walking down the dark and harsh road (having the new non-recorded songs in mind).

10. Didn't Really Try [2:51]
11. Sensei VS Sensei [4:56]

Info

After nine albums, countless world tours and more than a dozen years of leading their scene, FU MANCHU – perhaps the definitive Southern California hard rock band of the last decade – have signed a worldwide recording agreement with The Century Family. Their tenth, as-yet-untitled album will surface in early 2007.

"FU MANCHU is one of the most influential rock groups of recent times," says Marco Barbieri, president of Century Media Records. "We're proud and excited to welcome the band to our roster, and we look forward to being part of a new chapter of their impressive history."

Founded by guitarist/vocalist Scott Hill, FU MANCHU debuted their '70s-inspired fuzz rock on 1994's acclaimed No One Rides For Free. Over the next decade, the group received extensive international acclaim for such landmark albums as 1996's In Search Of..., the following year's The Action Is Go, 2000's King of the Road (hailed by Rolling Stone as "the ultimate desert-rock car album") and California Crossing (2001).

Most recently, the group released Start The Machine in 2004. Supported by a nationwide tour with Corrosion of Conformity, the album was praised by All Music Guide as proof that "FU MANCHU have actually improved with age: They first stood out simply as one of the first groups to do what they do, and now deservingly stand out as one of the best at what they do."

The band – which for the last four-plus years has featured Hill, drummer Scott Reeder (ex-Smile) and longtime members Bob Balch (guitars) and Brad Davis (bass) – also has several famous alumni, including former Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age drummer Brant Bjork.

FU MANCHU will track their new album at Hollywood's Grandmaster Recorders studios (Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Black Crowes) – where they also recorded In Search Of... and The Action Is Go – with co-producer Andrew Alekel (Weezer, Rancid, Queens of the Stone Age). The band plans to record 13 new songs and, in classic FU fashion, three covers: The Cars' "Moving In Stereo," Void's "Who Are You" and Van Halen's "D.O.A."

"We are excited to be working with the Century Family," Hill says. "We feel that they really understand rock bands like us. Our new record is heavier, thicker, fuzzier and more aggressive than anything that we've done for a while. We can't wait to get this record out and then hit the road to play these songs live. We can only turn up so much at practice, but these songs are meant to be played loud!"

Although recording will take precedence for the immediate future, FU MANCHU will perform live periodically throughout the rest of 2006 and kick off a full world tour early next year.

Saviours - Crucifire

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tracklist

1. Holy Slaughter
2. Crucifire
3. Rise To Pyramid Form
4. Exalter Of Thorns
5. Christ Hunt
6. Call Them Into Fire
7. Heathen Eye
8. Firewind

Info

Inspired by their common love of the dark and dirty sounds of late 70s and early 80s new wave of British heavy metal, the Saviours formed in Oakland, California, over the summer of 2004. Former Yaphet Kotto members Austin Barber (vocals, guitar), Scott Batiste (drums), and Mag Delana (guitar, also formerly of Bread and Circuits), joined together with bassist Cyrus Comiskey (Drunk Horse) and 3rd (!) guitarist Tyler Morris, intent on saving heavy music from its current state of lackluster purgatory. With the demonic vibe of classics like Bathory, Venom and even Black Sabbath in mind, Barber began to scrawl blasphemous diatribes that'd make even the most thick skinned Christian rockers shiver in their shoes. Meanwhile, guitars were down-tuned, distortion was cranked up, and a powerful, sub-harmonic, rhythm section lay down unearthly grooves.
