Info

Drew at Translation Loss seems to have a real ear for music. He was able to tie down the likes of Rosetta, Mouth of the Architect, Intronaut, and now Fight Amputation. Coming straight out of the New Jersey basement scene (though they sound more like they belong in Kentucky alongside the likes of Young Widows, Lords, Pusher, and Coliseum), Fight Amputation embodies the true spirit of punk rock, hardcore, and noise rock. On the album's opening jam, "Dead is Dead", the drum beat and subsequent guitar riff will fade you into this solid album.

“Dead is Dead” displays Fight Amp in all of their glory, their dingy, dirty, gritty glory. I’m somehow shocked that grit and fuzz doesn’t come flying out of my stereo when rocking this disc. It takes me back to my youth, back to the days of small venues full of thrashing noisy bands that are now shut down. That taken to heart, Hungry for Nothing is exactly what I’ve been looking for as of late, a genre destroying album that leaves nothing but devastation in its wake.

Interestingly enough, Fight Amp doesn’t seem to hit a dull patch on the album. Between the back and forth banter of noise rock and punk rock and the six and a half minute long stoner epic “Get High and Fuck”, the band built a dynamic sound that denies critics the ability to question their songwriting skills. Distorted bass lines, arbitrary guitar riffs, and punishing drums beats create the canvas that vocalist Pat splatters his compelling and vehement vocal style all over.

The grooves on this album are simply undeniable. Fight Amp has a knack for building a groove into a monumental work, just listen to “Late Bloomer” on the band’s myspace and you’ll see exactly what I mean. You will get sucked in by this album just like I did. With eight tracks clocking in at exactly thirty-two and a half minutes, Hungry for Nothing is exactly what this music world needs more of, a creative look at an old favorite.
