I'm not going to have Ghostlimb's eponymous debut p laying at my wedding. I don't want any of their songs spinning while a loved one is being lowered into the ground. And it's probably not one of my favorite records this year. But as far was what these guys have set out to accomplish, I honestly can't imagine how they could have done it better.
Featuring members from the still-grinding Graf Orlock, this West Coast three-piece is a first-class combination of thrash, hardcore and in-your-face melody. It's not that the band is really doing anything different or original—far from it—but the guys have fantastic ears for what needs to get stuck in your head and what needs to bash it in. Being able to cram all of these elements in one song is hard enough, but doing it on tracks that hover around a minute and a half is even more impressive. With 11 songs not even clocking in at 15 minutes, this is the kind of efficient beating you need for your morning commute.
But what sticks out most about Ghostlimb is how triumphant they sound. Listening to this evokes images of Braveheart, but instead of kilt-wearing Scots, it's dudes with torn Assück shirts and shitty dreads. The punks are marching to war, folks, and it's time to join or die.
