09. Satan [3:27]
10. My Knives [3:05]
11. Here it Comes... (Lungs) [3:14]
12. Testestrogen [2:50]

Info

Young and Restless were drawn together in Canberra in April 2005. Ask the five members of the band what magnetised them and somewhere in the sprawling explanation there’d inevitably be reference to noise and energy. Because noise and energy are central to everything about Young and Restless.

Guitarists Ash Pegram and Mark Falkland play with a hardcore intensity that struggles to be harnessed to the band’s blink and you’ll miss ‘em pop songs. Teenage bass player Ross Paxman makes it more than evident that he spent part of his youth growing up in Seattle and in tandem with drummer Nugie Utomo plays with a ferocity intent on waking the entire neighbourhood. And out front singer Karina Utomo effortlessly and unintentionally smashes every stereotype you may still be unconsciously clinging on to. This is a woman with something to say and a voice to say it with.

Now calling Melbourne home (except for Nugie who is still in Canberra for studies), Young and Restless were thrust into the spotlight late last year when they won Triple J's Unearthed competition, which resulted in them performing at Homebake in Sydney. Six months on and the band has been ripping up stages across the country with the likes of Erase Errata, Cansei De Ser Sexy and Love Is All.

Set for release mid-July, the album is completely self-funded and was recorded by Tom Larkin of Shihad, at his studio in Melbourne earlier this year. Despite several tracks having already sneakily, blasted out on radio (I Pointed At You and You Burst Into Flames, Satan, Dirty Kicks) the album will be the first official release for Young and Restless and Satan and Dirty Kicks have now been remade, remodelled and cranked for even more high energy action.

Vocal collaborators on the album include Peter Saladino (Brisk) and Tom Lyngcoln (The Nation Blue).

Trencher - Lips

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tracklist

1. Commissioner Of Servers [1:22]
2. Hung, Draw Yet Shorter [1:19]
3. Nightmares On Crack St. [2:14]
4. Mouth To Anus [1:20]
5. All That Blood And No Pain? [3:01]
6. In Reverence [7:34]
7. Two Semi's Don't Make A Hard-On [1:00]
8. Lips-Like Suicide [1:18]
9. Chatter Of Slimy Teeth [5:16]

Info

Trencher comes of age, or rather they sort of do, because when you play scatological circus grind powered by turbocharged bass, spastic drums and a malenky bit of horrorshow organ over the top, you aren't really going to come over all mature like. But that's fine, because with noise as entertaining as this, I can forgive them for anything. Trencher are very serious about making ferocious music that still has an appealingly humourous edge to it (that brain-drilling organ "helps"), with a real knack for making things chop and change all the time while keeping it surprisingly catchy. It means they're mining the depths that the narrow constraints of the genre and their choice of instrumentation afford rather than going through the motions. Keep it up you nutbars!

08. Firesnakes [3:26]
09. Collapse [3:37]
10. Human Engine [5:17]

Info

VORTICE was born in Barcelona on January 2004. Their members come from well-known Spanish bands like Uziel [Underhill Records], Omegacinco [Goldstandardlabs] and Apnea.

The band guidelines in a musical level differ from everything done before by their members, getting closer to other musical styles like Extreme Metal, Post Metal or Math Metal, mixing as well the personal influences from each of its members. Vortice’s sound is thick, low, heavy and complex.

One of the main goals of the band was to be cautious about appearing live. The band could then spend more time to compose and mature their songs looking for a more personal sound. This helped out as well to give some space and finally to make a breach between past and present.

Vortice went to studio for first time on January 2006 to record three songs for promotion (one of them appeared in the Rockzone Magazine compilation with bands like Sepultura) and with the idea to improve their sound for the upcoming debut full length album. This recording session was produced by Iban Puigel (The Unfinished Sympathy ) at the Fundicio Musical del Barri in Hospitalet del Llobregat (Barcelona). Iban, former member of Vortice, understood perfectly the band sound with an amazing result.

Vortice has been playing live around Spain in cities like Barcelona, Valencia, Ubeda, Madrid, Bilbao, Oviedo o Donosti. They played with well-known bands like Moho, Another Kind of Death, El Paramo, Moksha, Adrift, Red Sparowes, Unsane... With great success within the audience.

Between the 6th and 20th of April 2007, the band got into studio for the recording of their debut full length album that took place at the The Room BCN Studios in Barcelona, produced by Gorka Dresbaj and mastered at the TailorMaid Studios in Sweden by Peter in de Betou (Dimmu Borgir, Enslaved, Meshuggah, Marduk, Nasum, Nine,...). The record has been released by the Madrid label Holy Cobra Society Records on January 2008.

Info

I have a vivid mental snapshot of El Cerdo vocalist Josh Greene holding both arms straight out and staring wild-eyed at the audience of about 25 in a basement in Southeast Portland last month, taking a few deep breaths during an instrumental break before dramatically bringing the microphone back to his mouth to finish pummeling onlookers with a scream influenced by Carcass' Jeff Walker that the 20-year-old has been perfecting since he was 13.

So it comes as a surprise to me when, over lunch at Vita Cafe, El Cerdo guitarist Jayson Smith tells me that all the movement and crowd interaction I saw "isn't something [the band] is doing on purpose." Greene adds, with a hint of disdain on the last word, "When we get up there, we don't have the intention of 'we're gonna put on a show.'" He goes on to explain that his band's practices probably look pretty similar to what I saw at the basement gig. "I just love the music and I feel it," he continues. "And when you feel it, that's what happens."

The first thing you're likely to "feel" at an El Cerdo show is the rhythmic stampede of drummer Nick Pugh's low, rumbling floor tom and bass drum. Having recently switched to a classic single-pedal kick, Pugh now does half the work of the band's complex beats formerly played on a double bass drum with his hands. Smith's description of Pugh as "an octopus" is apt. The heavy 4/4 doom-metal parts of El Cerdo's often seven- or eight-minute songs stand out and feel particularly warm compared with the unpredictable, uncomfortable 5/4 or 7/8 riffs that often pound off of Ben Joner's bass at top speed. There's rarely a recognizable verse-chorus structure; rather, the band writes in a linear fashion, building each of the dozens of changes onto the one before it. The songs themselves are exercises in instrumental complexity, anchored in constantly morphing time signatures.

In fact, the increasing technicality of El Cerdo's instrumentals led Smith, who used to handle vocal duties as well as guitar for the group, to seek out a new throat to front the band. After a short stint with a vocalist who Smith says had trouble making it to practice, they tried out Greene whose old group, the Hordel, performed with El Cerdo and he immediately fit in perfectly. A listener would not guess he's been in the band for only six weeks.

Its stylistic diversity and honest approach make El Cerdo a band that can play a doom festival, as it did this fall in Austin, Texas, or with Northwest power metal gods 3 Inches of Blood, as it will Sunday at Sabala's, and with underground hardcore/thrash up-and-comers Lords and Ed Gein, as it will Monday at Food Hole. Unlike a couple of its favorite local bands, Black Elk and Tragedy, El Cerdo is not really exploring new territory within the metal genre, but the performers' disinterest in artifice, earnest passion and artful synthesis of influences makes the music accessible and infectious.

Info

This is an epic 65 song thrash attack, clocking in at close to an hour. Totally demented and innovative grind thrash. Add a ton of jazz, and lots of ska, surf, rock, salsa, disco, bossa nova, ?, etc etc, backed by guttural grindcore grunt-roars and you have one fucked up cd. Much in the vein of John Zorn's NAKED CITY but alot groovier... add different horns (trumpets and trombone), accordian, spanish guitar, and mad Dr.Organ Grinder taking the lead. They do a few covers as well, everything from De La Soul, Terrorizer, to the Exploited, and CHIC but they practically rewrite the songs and make them their own. The discography spans the course of 9 years, taken from 2 mcd's, a few comps, demo tracks, and few live shows recorded in Slovenia.

Info

The Snake Trap is a really cool instrumental rock band. The name describes their long convoluting, extremely pumping songs perfectly! I can't help but smile at their whacky and maybe silly song titles like "Redheaded Manual Festival", "Four Sores And Seven Beers Ago" (parts I, II and III) and "Untitled". Though I'd rather not label them as this genre or that, I'd suggest this band to people who are into post-rock/stoner-rock, especially bands like Pelican and Isis and to anyone who likes long pointless jams. You'd do good to check them out. I can't find even one decent review of their 2006 album "At Home in a Hostile World". They don't even seem to have a homepage! How lazy can a band get? So listen to these guys and spread the word. Their songs also have a loaded bass sound which can crush you to pulp, so go fucking get hold of the bloody album.

Info

Utilizing the hostile atmospheres of black metal, while promoting the honesty and rawness of grunge and punk, Hennes Siste Høst push the boundaries with their own hybrid of those genres, currently unheard in today's underground. Written entirely by frontman Zander, "Del En : Høst" expresses diverse character, yet keeps the listener close with catchy melodies, exotic vocals, and strong, aggressive rhythms. One will not find any wasted tape or novelty here; only untouched, unprocessed originality in the form of Hennes Siste Høst.

Info

We played our first show that following septemeber with at the drive in. we recorded a demo with matt mcfarland and not long after in december we got john theis on drums and recorded our first 7 inch "in line for halos". that line up stayed and we recorded the 6 song cd, split 7 inch with saqqara, split 7 inch with rise from ruin, and the song from "the songs of the dead" comp with that lineup. then around nov/dec of 1999, tanner left mutually and eric moved to gutair and tim jewell from saqqara started to play bass. that was the lineup we had the longest but we only recorded an 8 song cd that never officailly came out, and the split 7 inch with caligari along with one other song that is unreleased.

29 songs on 2 cds, collecting all of the vinyl and CD appearances from this screamy emotional hardcore band from Sioux Falls. Members also played in other crucial midwest hardcore bands like Caligari, Examination Of The..., In Loving Memory, Eclipse Of Eden, and the Hareste.

Info

Da Arabian MC's Suhell Nafar, Tamer Nafar, Mahmoud Jreri DAM is the first and leading Palestinian Rap Group. It is composed of Tamer Nafar, 27, his younger brother Suhell, 23, and Mahmoud Jreri, 24. The group has been performing together since the late 90s. Tamer, who had been performing Rap since 1998 with his brother, was first contacted by Mahmoud Jreri. Mahmoud was writing his own lyrics so they quickly decided to join forces and the group was born in 1999. All three members of the group were born and grew up in the slums of Lod, a mixed town of Arabs and Jews, 20 km from Jerusalem.

DAM's music is a unique fusion of East and West, combining Arabic percussion rhythms, Middle Eastern melodies and urban Hip Hop/Rap

The lyrics of DAM are influenced by the continuing Israeli - Palestinian conflict as well as by the Palestinian struggle for freedom and equality. DAM also draw their influence from such controversial issues as terrorism, drugs and womens rights.

Musically they take their inspiration from both Hip Hop artists (Nas, 2Pac, Mos Def, IAM, NTM, Saian Supa Crew, MBS etc.) and Arabic music (Marcel Khalifa,Kazem Saher,George Wassouf, Majda al Romi etc.)

The songs, lyrics and music, are written and arranged by all members of the group and musically produced by them and other known producers.

DAM's debut album "Stop Selling Drugs" was released locally in 1998, followed by the second album called "Min Irhabi" (who's the terrorist?) which was released in 2001. The controversial title track of this album was released on the net and more than 1 million people downloaded it within one month from the website ArabRap.Net. The song was also distributed free with Rolling Stone magazine in France and became a "street" anthem. It was also featured in a compilation in France with Manu Chao, Zebda, Noir Desir and many other top artists.

Furthermore, the lyrics of the song were taught in some Universities around the world because of their deep meaning, and were also used in pro-Palestinian demonstrations around the world.

DAM are now gaining increased international popularity around the world through their unique message and ground-breaking live shows.

The growing international profile and interest in this unique band have led to participation in various films, events and collaborations including:

- "Local Angel", a 2002 documentary by Israeli director and political activist Udi Aloni. - Appearance in Forgiveness, Udi Alonis latest film selected at the Berlin Festival 2006. - Key appearance in the documentary Slingshot Hip Hop about todays Palestinian rap scene, by apalestnine amrican director Jackie Salloum. - Key appearance in the documentary film "Channel of rage", by Anat Halahmi, that showed the Israeli-Palestine struggle from the Israeli and Palestinian Rappers point of view - Appearance in the soundtrack of the film Ford Transit by Palestinian director Hany Abu Assad, who won a golden Globe for his film Paradise now. - Participation in the photoshoot by Magnum/National Geographic photographer David Alan Harvey about rap artists around the world. - Many live shows in Europe (France, England, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland etc.) and in the USA.

The band perform at the important TRANSMUSICALES DE RENNES festival in France in December 2006.

Dedication is DAMs long-awaited first international album which will be released autumn 2006.

Info

Anything But Yours started as a band in Regensburg in 2003 with such influences as Lack, Majority rule and Breach among many others.
One year later in 2004 it was the time for our first release then: ‘The doctrine story’ including 3 tracks which got great reviews at German magazines like Ox and several e-zines. It is a 100% DIY product limited to 100 copies.
After playing live shows together with Lack, Children of fall, Majority rule, Totalt jävla mörker, My unsaid everything, Eaves, The Smackdown, Lvmen, Six reasons to kill, Japanische Kampfhörspiele, I Pilot Daemon and Analena our next release was in planning besides some other bands we wanted to release through our own label named Heckspoilermusic.
In 2006 the track “Egomane” appeared on the ‘The dead pilots compilation’ (a compilation featuring JR Ewing, Khoma and side-projects of members from T(I)NC, Cult of luna and many others). In the same year two tracks were part of ‘Punk is Dad’. But more interesting seems the fact that the first full length with 11 tracks was released as digipack.
Now in summer 2007 a split with the lovely I Pilot Dæmon from Toulouse is going to be released in Germany through Heckspoilermusic and of course…France by Lacrymal Records.
We puzzled out our sound into a more rocking but also noisy direction - you may name bands like These arms are snakes as important influences now. On the other hand the music seems to be a bit slower than the old stuff and more calm and we know that listeners will have to take some time to get used to it. But they will love the songs then...
The EP was mastered by Pelle Henricsson in Sweden at the mighty Tonteknik Recording AB where great bands like Refused and many others recorded their stuff before.
