The guitar is like 20 times heavier than in the other album, and the bass is psykadelic has always! No they are not from the USA, but from Latvia, and YES they are amazing!

Soon to be unleashed by Throne records, both on CD and limited edition 12"LP, release date around May. Cover artwork by the almighty Nor to be posted very soon. The album features the special collaboration by Alonso Urbanos (Scumearth) with his extreme horrified noise, giving deadly birth to the best intros/outros we could think of. Underworld habitants only can expect another overdose of mayhemic old styled grinding death, with the most powerful sound production we got ever, thanks to the master Gonso Pedrido.

INFO

Somebody once said: "Chicks up front!"...these ladies pushed even forward by putting "these chicks" on the stage. I've never been that much into "riot grrrls" and I've never supported female bands for the mere fact they were women, I think this kind of behavior is cheesy and also deeply discriminating underneath. After this unwanted and useless lesson of "hows and whys" (mercy upon me please!), let's talk about the real matter of this recording, the music. That's noise a la Amphetamine Reptile, Php or early Touch and Go, I'm not afraid to say the trio is in to make your ears bleed, a really good thing if you play music like that. The production is great (Fabio Magistrali sometimes is simply excellent), everything is hard as a band like that should be and they really know how to play. As I've already said "Greeting from S.sg" is a "de-ja vu" of noise music in the likes of Janitor Joe, Unsane, early Jesus Lizard, Hammerhead, Helmet and Big Black, although it may sound old fashioned that's the special of the day. "Greeting" is as "delicate" as a truck-driver could be, look at the shit they put on the front cover, isn't it lovely?!. I don't know if you care about their sexual gender, I imagine some people will talk about it, I'm sorry I did it too much myself. This' hard "Noise" well done and arranged in the way they did it back in the nineties.

It’s amazing how powerful a band can sound, even if they bring quite soft music. Gnu, around for 11 years, is one of a kind. Rock music with a driving roll touch that hardly ever really explodes but the more you listen to it the more you know this album is an explosion in se. Gnu’s sound is shaped by the combination of two bass guitars, creating a musical experience you can’t create with only one bass guitar I guess. Still it’s quite moody and experimental rock music with an emo touch. Lyrics are sung in Czech, I don’t really understand what this is all about but anyway, I’m not really struck by the voice here as well. Musically this is cooler. Give it a chance!

INFO

Decahedron started in 2001 as a project between Jason Hamacher and Shelby Cinca, both formerly of the DC punk band, Frodus. Upon the breakup of Frodus in 1999, the two convened work on musical projects with various collaborators. After some time apart, they reunited again along with longtime Fugazi acquaintance Joe Lally, whom Shelby initially met after recording two albums for DC's Dead Meadow that Joe consequently released on his Tolotta Records. Lally and Cinca wrote and recorded their musical concepts and sent them via email to Hamacher, who was in Europe and Asia at the time and listened to the MP3s and responded. After Hamacher's return to the US, the long-distance project was now a band called The Black Sea, and the group released a three-song CDep on Lovitt Records in late 2002. The CDep did well, charting in the CMJ Top 200 despite no tours or shows supporting it.

The trio spent eight months of recording intermittently in their home studio in 2003 and finally completed a full-length album, "Disconnection_Imminent." Upon completion of the album, trademark issues forced The Black Sea to change their name to Decahedron. In the time around and after the mixing of "Disconnection_Imminent", Joe Lally resigned bassist duties to focus on his family, and Jason and Shelby began the search for a new bassist. They asked Johnathon Ford of the bands Roadside Monument and Unwed Sailor, who responded positively and is now a permanent member.

" Disconnection_Imminent" is an extension of ideas hinted at in the CDep. With more bravado, the album is kinetic but measured. As an unconscious reaction to overt falsity and the current stream of commerce, Decahedron lashes out to create a political record that lacks neither intelligence nor passion. Lally's trademark sinewy bass lines and Hamacher's lockstep drumming are the perfect foil for Cinca's taut guitar work. Decahedron combines sharp invective and blistering ferocity to produce one of the most memorable full-length debuts in recent memory.

The group completed a three-week tour in February with Engine Down and will be touring the U.S., Japan and Europe throughout 2004.

INFO
If music were a sport where statistics were kept, this Japanese group's debut would lead the league in "longest album name over shortest band name" ratio. I can't help but find it odd that an album with such a strange and verbose title would consist entirely of instrumental music, but that's exactly what this is. te's (yes, the band's name is lowercase) atmospheric web of sound could be considered post-rock and maybe even math-rock, but they play it with such an unbridled energy and enthusiasm that they transcend the egg-headed (aka "boring") tendencies that come with such tags; instead coming off something like Mogwai covering Jawbox (or perhaps it's the other way around). While certainly not for all tastes, I think those with a penchant for challenging instrumental rock will dig this.

Lozen - Enemies Against Power

Photobucket

TRACKLIST

1. Breech
2. Made With Love
3. Unspeakable Truths
4. Erleichda!
5. Heart of Filth
6. Wet Nightmare
7. So Long

INFO

LOZEN are a two-women band named after an Apache warrior woman, whose spirit they attempt to channel through thunderous chug, schizoid dynamics and banshee (definitely not Siouxsie) wails. Certainly a promising premise for some righteous fury. Other, less dead and red spirits channeled here include MELVINS, UNWOUND, EARTH and fellow two-human nosie-rockers GODHEADSILO. The songs are multi-sectional cacophonies that parry and attack like a vagina with fangs or HEART with balls, often twisting and turning into the seven or eight-minute mark. While at times skirting with disjointedness, the quiet-loud menace of tracks like "Unspeakable Truths" hit like a female TOOL--a metal strap-on, if you will, fucking you in the name of stolen hunting grounds. It may fit strangely at first, but halfway through you'll start to enjoy it.
