Info

The story of This Day Will Burn begins in the summer of 2003. Due to some disagreements, the members of Learning English decided to split and form a new band, adding a new drummer. The band started rehearsing in August of 2003. The first line up, as the present one, is: Igich (bass & vocals), Chule (guitar), Buda (guitar) and Antun (drums).

Their first release was the “Greyness EP” in the winter of 2004, containing four self-recorded songs. After that, the band started playing in towns all over Croatia. 2006 was a very productive year for the band. They were featured on the Brand New Place Records “No One Dies Alone” compilation, together with bands from all over Croatia. Half a year later they went to record their first full-length album “How the Mighty Have Fallen”, which was also released on Brand New Place Records in October 2005. It has 11 tracks all recorded in “Socijala” studios in Novi Sad (SCG). The album achieved great reviews which described the sound as a versatile mix of slow, introspective and fast and ferocious rhythm and harmony. 2006 saw the band reach out beyond the borders of their small country.

As for the style of music they play, it is not easy to pinpoint the exact music style they fit into. Some described their sound as mid 90`s, Ebullition style emocore, but the band tries to stay faithful to the music they grew up on. The best description would be post hardcore with a punkrock attitude, with bands like Nomeansno, New Bomb Turks, Minor threat, Fugazi, Jawbreaker, At the drive-in… being the most powerful guidelines in the creative process.

This Day Will Burn look forward to a future full of creating and performing.

Info

Indianapolis IN's THE DREAM IS DEAD features former members of hardcore/ screamo/ metal faves BURN IT DOWN, HARIKARI, and SUTEK CONSPIRACY, but instead of resting on the reputations of their previous bands' efforts, TDID jumps through hoops to deliver a completely different musical experience. While still technically a "hardcore" band, TDID surpasses many bands in this somewhat stagnating genre by delivering non-stop, politically charged vocals, amazingly technical rhythms, and explosive guitar. In addition, there are no attempts at vocal melodies or acoustic breakdowns, giving them an edge above most of the stop/start "hardcore" bands out today. This CD is the debut release from a band you're going to be seeing lots of in the very near future... don't miss out on this. Artwork and design of both the 12" Vinyl and CD is by Shepard Fairey, of OBEY GIANT fame.

Info

Linton Kwesi Johnson (aka LKJ) (born 24 August 1952, Chapelton, Jamaica) is a British based dub poet. He became only the second living poet to be published in the Penguin Classics series. [1] His poetry involves the recitation of his own verse in Jamaican Creole over dub-reggae, usually written in collaboration with renowned British reggae producer/artist Dennis Bovell.

Johnson attended Goldsmiths College in New Cross, London, which currently holds his personal papers in its archives; in 2004 he became an Honorary Visiting Professor of Middlesex University in London. In 2005 he was awarded a silver Musgrave medal from the Institute of Jamaica for distinguished eminence in the field of poetry.

While still at school he joined the British Black Panther Movement, helped to organize a poetry workshop within the movement and developed his work with Rasta Love, a group of poets and drummers.

Info

cable last call dvd

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Info

If not for Cable, there may have never been Isis…or Red Sparowes. Bassist Jeff Caxide played on Cable’s eponymous 1996 debut then left to join Isis. Cable’s influential 1999 album Gutter Queen was release number 26 on a then-fledgling indie label in Boston called Hydra Head. Many noisecore bands copied Cable’s formula for success, and some, with the right PR push and radio play, overshadowed their masters left in the lurch. So when these Connecticut noiseniks finally broke up for good last year (as opposed to their patented ‘indefinite hiatus’ after nearly every album), they would’ve gone out with merely a whimper if not for the Last Call CD/DVD sounding the official death knell. The 15-track CD is a true career cross-section: one new song, a hearty six-pack from their final show, one song from each of their seven studio releases, and one fan-recorded live nugget. The DVD boasts the obligatory live set plus a fascinating hour-long documentary that chronicles the rise and fall of the Cable empire. The title track is the new one, and much like Nirvana’s unearthed swan song “You Know You’re Right,” it’s quite poignant for all the right reasons: immediately recognizable yet haunting guitar chords, agonized-by-life vocals, and plodding drum beats that have been honed to a sharp edge by ignoring the trends. The live set (from a late ’04 benefit show at CBGB’s) is utterly tight and reportedly the most jaw-dropping of that night. Most of the six cuts are culled from their most recent album, 2004’s Pigs Never Fly (with “It’s My Right to Be an Asshole” and the title track being particularly incisive), though older tracks “The Sunday Driver” and “Missoula” dovetail perfectly with their newer, syrupy sound. Bassist Randy Larsen nails down the low end with railroad stakes on the studio track “Human Landfill” (from Pigs) and “Battle of the Asses” (from 2003’s Never Trust a Gemini), and guitar duo Bernie Romanowski and Ben Cowles show off their Southern-rock chops on “Buy Me a Drink” (from 2001’s Skyhorse Jams) and the inimitable “Black Leather Mustache” (from 2001’s Northern Failures). The Craw-like “Clinton St. Blues” (from Gutter Queen) and “Wireless” (from 1996’s Cable) offer a slice of their early sound that defined noisecore in the late ’90s, and a video-camera bootleg of “Gutter Queen” exemplifies the band’s seething volatility. The DVD’s movie, also titled Last Call, is not only one of the finest documentaries in recent years, but it’s also much better produced than any big-budget MTV/VH1 equivalent on the market. Directed by Ed Ballinger (bassist of label roster mates Slacks!), the film traces the band’s history through interviews with early promoters, friends, and former bandmates. Isis’ Caxide gives a particularly humorous account of Cable egging on the Dillinger Escape Plan to the point of violence. Playing dive bars, sleeping on floors, and living the life of the rock ‘n’ roll pauper is/was the status quo for Cable, and it’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for its members. In the meantime, however, Last Call may be the most perfect and definitive retrospective of a truly great band.

Info

This is the third full length of these friendly Germans. They started out as one of Europes answers to bands in the vein of From Ashes Rise and Tragedy, but have developed their own sound. For those who have seen them live, you know this is one tight powerhouse.
This record contains 12 songs, varying from the more upbeat stuff to straight forward rockers. When I first listened to it, Poison Idea came to mind right away. It is not a copy of that stuff, but in my opinion sort of the same atmosphere, at least the slower stuff. Personal favorites are the songs ‘Osmosis’ and ‘The roaring mob’.
Lyricwise most of the songs deal with personal frustrations as well as political issues, but also about the nice feeling that summer sometimes gives you. What I like a lot about the lyrics is that they are written straight from the heart, be it filled with anger or desperation. Good stuff.
For those interested, they have a couple of song on their myspace site. If you like your hardcorepunk raw, intense and sincere, be sure to give them a listen.

GRACIAS.

S U B M E R G E started in 1998 as a 5 people band, an all friends band that wanted to have fun touring and also voicing opinions through music. From the beginning Submerge played DIY shows, not because they were rookies or something, but because they despise competition and they feel there's much more to share within the DIY scene, even in the gossipy lil' French one. Influences came from Iron Maiden to Converge, Catharsis, Rubbish Heap, Nostromo, Ananda, Knut. After 2 years of amazing (and sometimes shitty!) shows, the band split up for personal reasons and get back a year later as a quatuor and with a much stronger identity. Punk roots, sludgy sound, technical drumming, ingredients that allows the music not to get boring too fast
