The flamingo massacres - Wearing your heart on the front of your shirt

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

tracklist

1. cue buttons down [4:48]
2. sweating for a lie [2:38]
3. insomnia [10:33]
4. wearing your heart on the front of your shirt [2:39]
5. shocked [4:45]
6. quit it [2:28]
7. thing [2:00]
8. disagree [3:23]
9. loser at chess [5:09]

Info

The Flamingo Massacres were a postpunk / indiepunk band that existed from 1997 to 2002 and consisted of Lari W. (bass guitar), Micha K. (drums, vocals) and me, eve massacre (bass guitar, vocals). I spend some really great challenging and intense years with those two ladies, and all the people and other bands we've gotten to know on our extensive touring. We released a demo, two 7"s, a cd ep, an album and some songs on several compilations.

-------------

Forensics - Things to Do When You Should Be Dead Anyway

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tracklist

1. Sidewinder Passage
2. Di You See What God Just Did To Us, Man?
3. Circling Bloody Animal Tracks
4. When The Monkeys Clap, You Know You're Fucked
5. As Long As There's No Flipper Babies
6. How's The View From Sugar Heaven, Bitch?
7. Boat Day At The Marina
8. Black Mamba Passage
9. Torches To The Feet Of Zozobra
10. Welcome To Your Doom

Info

Forensics plays a monolithic, mountainous brand of heavy guitar-driven rock played at ceiling collapsing volume and intensity. A far cry above and beyond their pedigree (ex-pg.99, Corn on Macabre, Burning Airlines), Forensics is a dynamic juggernaut of epic proportions. This disc captures 11 tracks totaling 40 minutes with songs that range from fist-pumping blasts of pure fury to delicately crafted instrumentals that build dramatically before exploding into completely driven peaks of ferocity.

05. Darwin-en ametsgaiztoa [5:46]
06. Hellraiser [6:15]

Info

Info

Finding out about new, good bands is my favorite thing about reviewing albums for Lambgoat. I don't have much time to make an effort to find out about every new band that pops up in the underground genres of music. Hell, even if I did, I'm sure I'd be disappointed by 90% of the bands I'd find. Thankfully, this is not the case with Burial Year, and their record Pestilence. If I'm reading everything correctly, and I'd like to think I am, then Pestilence is Burial Year's debut full-length (the group previously released an EP). I haven't heard the EP, but I'm highly enjoying this record. Apparently this band features ex-members of Takaru, whom I've never heard, but have heard good things about. While I can't compare how Burial Year compares to the members' previous work, what I can tell you is that Pestilence is a punishing, relentless, and abrasive take on metal/hardcore. When I start to mentally dissect the music here, I'm hearing all sorts of things going on. The first comparison that I can make is that this sounds like a grittier, bigger-balls take on the style that Premonitions of War plays. I'm also hearing a definite Coalesce influence (think "002" or "A Safe Place"). Burial Year also has some harsher grind influences, which pop in and out of the songs quite quickly. With one exception, all the songs are under the three-and-a-half minute mark, but each song is packed with heavy riffs that range from melodic (in minor way) to completely chaotic. The drumming is completely tight and powerful. Even though there is a good bit of technical guitar work, the drumming doesn't wander all over the place, resulting in a shitty mess. The rhythm section does a great job of anchoring down the songs. The vocal performance is just as harsh as the rest of the music, but can get slightly monotonous after a while, as it isn't very dynamic. The production is decent, and I really enjoy all the tones they've captured. The overall quality sounds a bit rough, but, in a way, it compliments the music. Still, I would love to hear how these guys could sound with more of a recording budget. Bottom Line: While Pestilence is definitely a bit rough around the edges, it's a great album. If you're at all interested in hearing heavy bands that do a great job of melding their influences into dynamic releases, then check this out.

One of the oldest surviving NYHC punk bands, SFA was formed in 1984, but we didn't actually play our first show until Easter Sunday 1985. We have played more gigs in cities and countries around the world than drunken oldtimers like us can remember. We have made several singles, 5 albums, and been on dozens of compilations... all that means nothing since most of you have never heard of us.

Snowblood - Being And Becoming

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tracklist

01.Disappearance
02.Aubade
03.Out Of Harm’s Way
04.Call Of The Search
05.The Year Of The Bastard
06.Young
07.Black Stars Over Glasgow
08.Appearance

Info

The band name screams Norwegian black metal. The album name screams indie rock. The reality falls somewhere in between, _Being and Becoming_ being the second full-length release by the Glaswegian quartet Snowblood, another band that's been lumped in the Isis stable by music fans craving easy labels. Having still not heard the most famous proponent of the style, I can't make an informed judgment of this categorisation; however, it is fair to say that _Being and Becoming_ blends the laidback and the crushingly heavy into a pleasing package. The album kicks off with an extremely gentle eight-minute piece of clean guitars and soft crooning, and the second track continues with more moody guitar strumming and a spoken-word musing on the futility of urban living, allowing the band to catch the first-time listener off guard when they eventually lurch into a thunderous, plodding doom riff accompanied by tortured screams.

The formula is applied for a few more songs, but just when you think you have Snowblood pinned, they produce "The Year of the Bastard", an eruption of blast beats and death metal fury. While the internal culture clash of this one-hour monstrosity of a CD may sometimes seem jarring, the group really do pull it all together for a stirring finale, the sixteen-minute "Black Stars Over Glasgow" being a marvelous epic of brooding intensity, followed by a beautiful coda entitled "Appearance".

_Being and Becoming_ does have its flaws, with some passages coming off as a little redundant; indeed, the entire song "Call Off the Search" could easily have been left on the cutting-room floor. While in that respect I'd like to see the band exercise some restraint in the future, I do hope they resist pressure from outside forces demanding that they choose between their indie rock and extreme metal leanings, because this unlikely marriage of styles has given birth to quite an impressive album.

As the earth gets more and more polluted, it suffers much more than ever in the history of this planet. There is no denying that there's as much suffering among its habitants. At the same time we (the members of this band) spend our time doing the thing that we love the most, playing music. As we enjoy our lives, there are millions of creatures and the earth itself that face the pain and suffering everyday. If we look around us and show even a slightest interest of what is happening on this planet today, it would be naive to sing about love, our own personal problems etc. This is our contribution to the society that doesn't deserve any contributions. This is our way of expressing that there's something wrong with this civilization.

Frivolvol is music for the people, who still believe that there's hope of things getting better. Our gift to bored generation laying in their beds, waiting for a change. Music for the people who are waiting for the right moment to strike back and get back something that should be for granted. Our songs for the people, who spend their lives fighting for the voiceless. Our effort to make you realize but also to make you forget.

You are the start of the revolution, the sparkle that starts a fire. A fire that spreads rapidly through the forest in to the city and burns down the ignorant minds and the useless buildings where the pain blossomed. As it destroys the culture that didn't understand the true meaning of compassion, caring, responsibility, it creates a new solid ground for the future generations, so they can sing songs about love, freedom and the long forgotten revolution.

Info

The legend started over 25 years ago in Tornio [a small town in northern Finland], when Läjä [the only original member since then] formed a Discharge-influenced hardcore band with a few friends of his. The music they played was very unusual at the time in Finland, and so was their name, Terveet Kädet, which could be translated as 'Healthy Hands'.

The first, so called 'Classic TK line-up' since January 1980 was: Läjä [vocals], Tiimo [guitars], Piäsky [bass] and Peedro [drums]. These young men started their career with some of the most legendary punk slabs nowadays; "Rock Laahausta Vastaan" and "Terveet Kädet II", both self-financed one-sided seven-inchers with minimum pressings of 200 copies [they were released on Läjä's own IKBAL label, which has been somewhat active since the putting out of the first EP, releasing Läjä's weird side projects as well as Läjä's own comic books]. A bit later they got a deal from a bigger label, Poko Records, and released the evergreen, worldwidely praised punk classic "Ääretön Joulu" EP.

Peedro left Terveet Kädet in 1983, and Walde, who died in an accident in 1984, replaced him for a short period. Some classics from that era are the "Halloween" twelve-incher and the "Black God" LP. Both were later released in Germany and the "Black God" album was also released in Brazil. After Walde's tragic death, Tilli [Läjä's younger brother] took his place and still is a part of Terveet Kädet.

Started in Finland 1991 as a tribute to the early 80´s punk/hardcore movement of Brazil. The distinctive feature since the day one have been the portuguese vocals. What once was just a tribute soon turned into something slightly more serious, and numerous recordings and tours all over the world have followed. A new album entitled "Aqui é o inferno" out late 2006.

Info

Armed Love, produced by Rick Rubin, is the band’s heaviest effort so far and their strongest record to date. Punk rock played like 70’s hard rock or the other way around, with lyrics straight from the heart and straight to the point. Never before has there been a band that combines well-written, catchy songs with such radical politics as T(I)NC; they unite passion and politics in a highly explosive mix of catchy songs, full volume, dancing, sexuality, fashion, street fighting, sweat and live shows that would make most bands reconsider their reason for playing music.

Jimbo Jones - s/t EP

Tracklist

1. Grizzlybear underwear [3:16]

3. Cock crowded [2:54]
4. Golddigger [3:20]

Info

The winter of 2003 two old friends met in The City of Trondheim. Old tricks were made new, and in no time, there was no doubt about the next step. A couple of phone calls were made, and after intense persuasion, two friends had become four. Jimbo Jones as a band was born. A garage with no forms of insulation, with the quicksilver at fifteen below, was not the ideal practice space, but at least inspired the band to find a warmer and more soundproof location. After two months of intensive practice, the band was offered to tour with Norwegian hardcore superstars "The Spectacle". This included 5 gigs at the beginning of The Spectacles european tour of 2003. The band recorded a two song promo for the occation. This was meant to be given out to every Harry, Dick and Tom with a interest. The tour was a success and the band waited no longer than a month before hitting the road again, this time headed north. Six gigs were played between Tromsø and Trondheim. With such a sudden introduction to the rock'n'roll lifestyle and life on the road, the band sat back and let the impressions seep in. The band all agreed that there was to be more touring! Troy McClure Records was established as a result of Jimbo Jones' uncontrollable urge to get out there as fast as possible. No time waiting for a record-deal. With their own label they had full creative and economic control, regardless of any interests of the corporate music business. A minimalistic studio and an unlimited amount of studio time, coffee and cigarettes were to become the foundations of which the debut Jimbo ep was built upon. January 2005 the record was released, and the machine named JJ was rollin'. At the releaseparty everyone who showed up got a free copy of the ep. More touring was in the works, and JJ has now visited Finland, Sweden, and the baltic states.

Info

Riistetyt was originally named Cadgers. It was formed in end of 70's. In 81 (in fall of the year) they made a split with Kaaos (PTEP 01). Line-up was Lateri - voc., Perry - gtr., Piise - b. and Stydy - dr. In spring of 1982 Perry left the Cadgers and formed a band called Järjestyshäiriö (they did one great demo-tape, on vocals was Kake from Kaaos). Raipe replace Perry in guitar and so band became Riistetyt. "Laki ja järjestys" -ep (PTEP 03) came out in summer of 82. In fall of that year Piise left the Riistetyt (he was only 15 years old and he had something else) and Perry came back. The line-up: Lateri - voc., Perry - gtr., Raipe - b., Stydy - dr. They made the lp. "Valtion Vankina" (PRO 006), which came out in January 83. Then Raipe left and Piise came back to play bass. Next record was "Skitsofrenia" (PRO 018) 12" ep. It came out in spring of 1983. In that summer the line-up changed again, Piise and Stydy left on this time. New drummer and bass player was found from Kaaos, Jaska and me (Nappi). We were so fucking bored with Jakke. In October we made "Tuomiopäivä" (KILL 02) -ep, which came out until 1991 (I don't know the reason for this). A month later we did the studiosection for "Nightmares in Darkness" (RRR 34), it came out in next year. The live side on that album was recorded at Puntala festivals 83. After we were in studio Perry went to army and we had any guitarist. On that time we had the first Holy Dolls -project with Lateri. In December came Rike from Bastards to play guitar. He was very active to take care of gigs and other things of band but money was the only reason why he did all that. It became clear to me little bit later. Our Holy Dolls -project ispired him to form the Pyhät Nuket to addition for Riistetyt. We did with Riistetyt further one record "Raiskattu Tulevaisuus - Raped Future" (RRR 44). It came out later 1984, much more later than I left the band. On covers of that album they only thanked me for playing bass on that record. Ok that tells something about athmosphere in those days. I didn't get along with Rike, 'cos I noticed what kind of asshole he was. I left the band in April 84 and I formed the Kuolleet Kukat with Jakke. Riistetyt went to touring in USA in summer of that year. They had Make and Mika from TampereSS in guitar and bass there. I've heard that the music was only partically Riistetyt stuff in USA. Later they left Riistetyt completely and concentrated to Pyhät Nuket.

We restarted the band for the funeral of Lepakko in Nov. 1999 (Lepakko was legendary gigplace in Helsinki which was originally squated in 1979 and demolished by the Nokia in 1999). The line-up was Lazze-voc, Rike-guitar, Timo-drums and me-bass. In the beginning of 2000 we put Rike away, 'cos he came so bossy (actually he was same kind of asshole like in 80's) and we others didn't get along with him. Now we tried with two guitarists, Raimo and Vege. With that line-up we made an EP. "Tervetuloa Kuolema" (FIGHT 030) and little bit later Timo and Raimo moved away from the band. Perttu came to drums in Jan. 2001 and since that we've played with current line-up. Now we have made one LP "Kuka Valehtelee" (FIGHT036 / UDS 002) and 10" "Orjat Ja Kurjat" (FIGHT043) We've also toured several times in Europe and Brazil.

Info

Cult of Luna was formed back in 1998 by guitarist Johannes Persson and vocalist Klas Rydberg. They had new ideas on how to explore and develop their music. After some member hunting and rehearsals CoL had its first line-up consisting of: Klas Rydberg, Johannes Persson, Magnus Lindberg, Erik Olofsson and Fredrik Renström. After a short period of time, Fredrik had to leave due to some personal difficulties.

When practice started to pay off, CoL recorded a two-track demo in January 1999. After some more rehearsals, the band felt that to fully live out their wet dream of sound experimenting, an additional member was needed to handle the electronics. Since Magnus had both knowledge and equipment, he was self written. Given that Magnus had handled the drums earlier they needed a new drummer, who they found in the mutual friend Marco Hildén. A new bass player was also found, named Axel Stattin. Another mutual friend helped CoL release their first record. Tim Bertilsson, head of Trust No One Recordings released a 7" split vinyl with his own band Switchblade.

Watching a concert at the Trästock Festival, year 2000, UK label Rage of Achilles got in contact with CoL. Pretty soon after that it was agreed that RoA was to release CoL's debut full-length album. Release date was September 14th 2001. In these days Hydra Head Records had also shown interest in CoL, and this co-operation resulted in a two-track 7" colored vinyl on HHR, released March 24th 2002. These two songs were recorded at the same time as the self titled full-length on RoA. Immediately after the release of the first album, news of the band's mammoth sound worked its way into cult circles and the band received rave reviews. Discerning listeners instantly appreciated the bands unique approach, trading light and dark to create music that hit the heart and the head in equal measures.

After the success of the first album, Earache Records contacted CoL and wanted to sign a record deal. After some negotiations CoL finally signed the contract. Immediately after that CoL entered Tonteknik Recording studios, in July 2002, to record their second album The Beyond. After the recording session Andreas Johansson joined in on bass, due to the departure of Axel Stattin. The Beyond was released February 10th 2003, to critical acclaim. CoL proved that they were now ready to bring their soundscapes to a much wider audience. After the release of The Beyond, CoL toured Sweden with The Haunted and the UK with Isis. After this the line up changed, drummer Marco Hildén was replaced by Thomas Hedlund and an additional keyboard player, Anders Teglund, was added as a permanent fixture. Magnus took care of the percussion and additional guitar parts.

At this point touring became a lot more frequent. Late summer 2003 CoL ventured into Europe with US hardcore sensations Poison the Well, to amazing press reactions. In December the same year CoL returned to the UK for a tour with art noise merchants The Dillinger Escape Plan. The early part of 2004 was mostly dedicated to writing songs for their follow up to The Beyond. They found the time to play a few long awaited shows in Sweden and Finland, before entering Tonteknik Recording studios once again in April 2004.

The recording of Salvation was done in three different sessions, thus enabling the band to take some rest and think about possible changes that needed to be done. Finally, in late July 2004 the album was complete. Salvation was released October 4th 2004 in Europe and Oct 19th in the US. This album marked a new era in the history of CoL, both visually and sonically. At the same time as Salvation was hitting the stores, CoL embarked on a Europe/UK headline tour, which also included Scandinavian dates. This tour introduced a new member, Fredrik Kihlberg, who joined in on percussion and clean vocals.

2005 was perhaps the most interesting year so far in the history of CoL. It started with a six week European tour, partly with American hardcore act Bleeding Through and partly by their own. This tour also saw a change in the live line-up. As Thomas couldn’t participate due to being busy playing with other bands, Magnus took over the live drumming. When the band came home they had the time to rest for about a month before departing to the US for the first tour over there. CoL supported the mighty Mastodon on the first leg of the tour, and headlined eight shows (supported by Breather Resist) on the latter part. The reception of the American audience was stunningly good for a first ever tour in the US. After the US-tour CoL did some Scandinavian and European festival shows before starting to work on the 4th full-length album Somewhere Along The Highway.

In November 2005 CoL started the recording of Somewhere Along The Highway. The first session was located to an old octagon barn ten minutes west of Umeå. The vibe out there was perfect and seven days where spent there recording basic tracks. After some more sessions in the studio environment, Magnus mixed the last song in January 2006. Somewhere Along The Highway was released April 24th 2006 on Earache Records and was followed by a European.

10. Murder Kings and Killer Queens [2:06]
11. Kollapse [8:54]

Info

Lule, North Sweden 1993: The local punkband SUPERDONG split up. A lot of people couldnt care less. Now we know better. One half of Superdong quickly forms FIRESIDE, and the other half becomes BREACH.

Lule turns out to be a perfect place to develop the ultra-raw but still melodic hardcore/deathrock that has become the signum of Breach, and frankly they got absolutely nothing else to do then put all energy in to the band (not counting suicide or ice-hockey as serious options). Breach appear on a few compilation albums and put out their first MCD "Outlines" on Burning Heart Records.

During the spring of 1995 the full length debut "Friction" is recorded at Sunlight Studios in Stockholm, Sweden. Fred Estby of Dismember is engineering and producing together with Breach. Sunlight turns Breach debut album into pure dynamite. When it is released in August 1995 it is definitely one of the heaviest albums released that year.

In January and February 1997 their 2nd full length album is recorded. It is titled "Its Me God" and gets released on Burning Heart Records late April. Its Me God is recorded, mixed and produced by Pelle Gunnerfeldt. The music takes a small step away from metal and follows the direction started on the EP "Old Songs & New Beats" (1996, Burning Heart Records), with a more laborious sound with a stronger Unsane/Neuroses kind of perspective on their musical existence. It ends up somewhere in the land of The Jesu Lizard, Unsane, Entombed, Neurosist and Shellac.

In May 1999, the third album Venom" was released. This time, even more minimalistic and brutal than before. Songs like "Helldrivers", "Murder", "Hell Is My Witness" and "Diablo" are perfect rock'n'roll songs in the twisted world where BREACH without doubt is in control. "Venom" is like a spring-depression seen through dark thunder clouds. KERRANG! gave "Venom" 4/5 (KKKK), and wrote "Venom" is an album that lures the listener into the darkest rooms of the mind and then buggers off with the torch".

And that's a statement that not only could stand for "Venom", but as a whole for BREACH as a band.

December third 2001 saw the release for BREACH finest moment uptil date, "Kollapse". "Kollapse" is a perfect mix of walloping noise, scary and solemn introvert mayhem that could be the soundtrack to your favorite horror-movie, or the voices in the head for any modern western citizens angst & fear.

Soon after the release of "Kollapse", BREACH announced the split-up of the band.

The Swedish death punk veterans DRILLER KILLER are on the loose again to deliver a lethal dose of unrelenting crustcore! "The 4Q Mangrenade" is already the seventh big piece of shit regurgitated by these anti-social fuckers! Again you get a dirty dozen of hate anthems loathing and cursing the system, the society and most of all everyone! Musically DRILLER KILLER fuck again with all styles such as unpolished metal, straight hardcore punk and of course vicious D-beat worshipping at the altar of DISCHARGE. Although my all-time favourites in Swedish crustcore are of course the current and former Tompa Lindberg-bands DISFEAR and SKIT SYSTEM, also DRILLER KILLER definitely play together with the very cool WOLFBRIGADE (ex-WOLFPACK) and the MOMENT MANIACS in the Champions League of Scandinavian crustcore! Or in other words, DRILLER KILLER grab you by the throat and stamp the shit out of you!

10. Didn't Really Try [2:51]
11. Sensei VS Sensei [4:56]

Info

After nine albums, countless world tours and more than a dozen years of leading their scene, FU MANCHU – perhaps the definitive Southern California hard rock band of the last decade – have signed a worldwide recording agreement with The Century Family. Their tenth, as-yet-untitled album will surface in early 2007.

"FU MANCHU is one of the most influential rock groups of recent times," says Marco Barbieri, president of Century Media Records. "We're proud and excited to welcome the band to our roster, and we look forward to being part of a new chapter of their impressive history."

Founded by guitarist/vocalist Scott Hill, FU MANCHU debuted their '70s-inspired fuzz rock on 1994's acclaimed No One Rides For Free. Over the next decade, the group received extensive international acclaim for such landmark albums as 1996's In Search Of..., the following year's The Action Is Go, 2000's King of the Road (hailed by Rolling Stone as "the ultimate desert-rock car album") and California Crossing (2001).

Most recently, the group released Start The Machine in 2004. Supported by a nationwide tour with Corrosion of Conformity, the album was praised by All Music Guide as proof that "FU MANCHU have actually improved with age: They first stood out simply as one of the first groups to do what they do, and now deservingly stand out as one of the best at what they do."

The band – which for the last four-plus years has featured Hill, drummer Scott Reeder (ex-Smile) and longtime members Bob Balch (guitars) and Brad Davis (bass) – also has several famous alumni, including former Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age drummer Brant Bjork.

FU MANCHU will track their new album at Hollywood's Grandmaster Recorders studios (Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Black Crowes) – where they also recorded In Search Of... and The Action Is Go – with co-producer Andrew Alekel (Weezer, Rancid, Queens of the Stone Age). The band plans to record 13 new songs and, in classic FU fashion, three covers: The Cars' "Moving In Stereo," Void's "Who Are You" and Van Halen's "D.O.A."

"We are excited to be working with the Century Family," Hill says. "We feel that they really understand rock bands like us. Our new record is heavier, thicker, fuzzier and more aggressive than anything that we've done for a while. We can't wait to get this record out and then hit the road to play these songs live. We can only turn up so much at practice, but these songs are meant to be played loud!"

Although recording will take precedence for the immediate future, FU MANCHU will perform live periodically throughout the rest of 2006 and kick off a full world tour early next year.

Nine new songs to hold you over until the inevitable LP! That's right! It's a 12": way too many songs for a 7", not quite enough for an LP. Or you can call it "an LP for those with short attention spans". Either way, you get the equivalent of two chock-full-of-fury 7" records on one handy, convenient 12"... half the flipping, twice the noise! Go!!

Evocative artwork jumps off the cover and smacks innocent bystanders, courtesy of Steak Mtn (Chris / CWV)! They even cover a CRASS song! Insanity!!

Blistering hardcore in the vein of COMBATWOUNDEDVETERAN, TRAGEDY, BORN AGAINST, and FROM ASHES RISE (with a tip of the hat to Eighties punk & Japanese thrash)!

THM is the new band founded by Dan (a.k.a. Ponch) from COMBATWOUNDEDVETERAN & members of THE BLACKOUT TERROR!! Over the course of CWV, Dan shifted between bass and vocals- in THM, he fills both roles full time!! Recorded by Mark Nikolich at Atomic Audio (FLOOR, COMBATWOUNDEDVETERAN) ...so you know it's brutalicious!!

Info

Ten seconds into the opening track “Odd Generation’s Back” and you know exactly what’s going on here: there’s no attempt to even disguise the fact it’s a speeded up rip-off of the Ramones “Blitzkrieg Bop”. But this album has that spark, that certain special something where trifles like that don’t matter, where every song makes you wanna jump in the air and smash your face into the wall. Taking their name from the Blitz song, you’d be forgiven for expecting a dodgy run through of the old Oi! Formula. Thankfully you’d be wrong. This has more energy and attitude than a barrel full of punky monkeys. “Mainstream Civil War”, “Rat Pack”, “Let’s Go”, each one guaranteed to get your foot tapping, even Douglas Bader couldn’t stop himself twitching his stumps. Big choruses, great guitars and catchy punk-as-fuck songs… excellent.

ThroneRecords

We´re formed back in ’88 by Matti Kärki (DISMEMBER) and Grant McWilliams in order to pay tribute to their favourite band; CARCASS. The band was a seemingly short-lived project, disbanding only three years later. But now they are back. Since their inception the line-up has undergone more changes than Michael Jackson’s nose, but they are still pumping out the same Gore-laden Death/Grind that they were 18 years ago.

If you are in any way familiar with this band you know what to expect; shameless CARCASS worship that at times treads the line of downright plagiarism. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the band, the previous sentence basically sums up their sound. Growled and gurgled vocals, gore-splattered guitar bludgeoning and a sense of groove that will have your head bopping in no time.

Is there anything on this album you haven’t heard before? No, there isn’t. But that doesn’t stop “Left Hand Pathology” from being one of the most enjoyable Goregrind records this year. This is CARCASS worship executed to perfection and as such is a highly recommended listen.

Info

Hell yeah. Excellent hard-hitting material out of Switzerland here. How you'd "categorize" this I'm not sure, and I don't care, because it kills. Pounding rhythm focused chord progressions with scathing vocal screams, just the right amount of discordance and subtle melody, tons of gritty distorted textures across the board, etc. The recording is fucking stellar for this style of music as well. Everything is mixed tightly together without any gaps, so the percussion is totally natural and dense, you can hear the bass holding it down in the center, the guitars are hard panned and have an excellent level of clarity, and the vocals are deep against the music - adding in additional light distortion next to the guitar tone. I have zero fucking complaints about the production. None. The title track (fourth in line) is the first track to start out somewhat softer with some very faintly distorted guitars, gradually building up with percussion and bass, but never introducing vocals or full-blown heaviness - opting instead for a thicker melodic lead break/layered chord progression towards the latter moments. "Black Spot" opens with a lush fingerpicked passage over some soft volume swells, picking up into another of the more melodic and spacious compositions, this time cranking out some vocals and a heavier edge, leading into the faster and decidedly more rocked out brevity of "Pendulum" and "Hand in Mouth". The slowest and probably heaviest track, "Cutting Trees", surprises with some awesome singing vocals low in the mix just past midway through - a drastic change for the rest of the record that fits in perfectly and definitely calls for further attention. The layout is all done in high contrast black and white with a good deal of metallic silver, and it looks fucking awesome. Things are mostly made up of splotchy textures and whatnot, with a few recognizable insect wings and band photos. Lyrically things are fairly succinct and abstract, but still quite expressive: "The machines we built are heading back, Return to sender, Hell is up here, His helmet is fused to his head, Hit by the one he aimed, His hands are pieces of meat, He's facing up with his purpose - won't give in, Burn the flag as I am born, My sorrow's not for sale, Perception left so low and torn, Image and word proof to fail." I'd highly recommend this one for the Hydra Head crowd. Though definitely not the same beast at all this group is certainly aesthetically aligned with their fellow countrymen in Knut (and they also remind me of a nastier and less straightforward Helmet, which I view as a positive), so give this a shot.

Long time fore-runners of the hardcore/emo scene, Still Life are a Los Angeles based 3-piece that have been putting out records for over ten years. Often referred to as one of the most influential emo bands ever, their chaotic yet poetic style of music is both aggressive and at the same time serene, harkening back to the hey-day of melodic hardcore (when it was still actually hardcore).

The Sunflower Tribe, the band's own label, contains bios, more mp3s, various releases from the Sunflower Tribe label, and some nifty rants from SL bass player Dave Pitzel.

Limitations, Boundaries, and Failures, the long-awaited 5-song EP, was released in August of 2002 and is Still Life's first release on the Greyday label. It is five songs that span their career, from their roots as The Monster Club in the late eighties to a song written about two months ago.

Their new album, entitled The Incredible Sinking Feeling, is the first full-length release from the band since 1998's Madness and the Gackle. Over four years in the making, this long awaited album will be available from Greyday on vinyl and cd this summer.

Para fans de John Henry West, Black Flag, The Offenders, Germs....

Bcore

ThroneRecords

Spacehorse is a relatively new band conducted by people formerly active in notable bands which helped to define the 90`s San Diego hardcore scene - Heroin, Clikatat Ikatowi, Camera Obscura. After amazing 2005 debut EP on San Diego based cult label Gravity Records (operated by Spacehorse` drummer Matt Anderson) Day After is happy to release their follow up 12"! Eight new songs of fast, abrasive hardcore with that special unrestrained intensity of early Gravity sound. Some of the new songs absorbed dark aura of The VSS records, which along with Russell`s spacey vocal gives Spacehorse new, gloomy flavor. And above all, it in no way slowed Spacehorse down!

Info

CHANG FFOS are heavy. Not the kinda heavy you're used to. They're heavier than that. Period. Imagine all the steel Sweden has to offer, multiply that with a million and you might get a picture of how heavy this psychedelic rock meets sludge meets hardcore meets doom meets noise outfit is. Imagine Neurosis' heaviness, Converge's energy, Today Is The Day's craziness and the atmosphere provided by Kyuss, and you're on your good way to enter the temple of CHANG FFOS. Their debut full length was recorded at Kozmo Studio in May of 2005. The recording session was done on a 2" tape and was handled by Mr. Jomi Ajjomi of the infamous Analena and Lunar. Mr. Steve Austin, of the legendary Today Is The Day and owner of the Austin Enterprise, took care of the mastering. The album was titled Trust This Arcane Device clocking over 45 minutes wrapped up in 9 songs of sheer brutality.

2. My Own Phobia [4:11]
3. Rose-Bays Over The Grave [3:38]
4. God Inc. [3:02]
5. Droping Life Intro WC [2:08]
6. Insert Coin [3:18]
7. Blindness VS Reality [8:05]

Info

Saviours - Crucifire

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tracklist

1. Holy Slaughter
2. Crucifire
3. Rise To Pyramid Form
4. Exalter Of Thorns
5. Christ Hunt
6. Call Them Into Fire
7. Heathen Eye
8. Firewind

Info

Inspired by their common love of the dark and dirty sounds of late 70s and early 80s new wave of British heavy metal, the Saviours formed in Oakland, California, over the summer of 2004. Former Yaphet Kotto members Austin Barber (vocals, guitar), Scott Batiste (drums), and Mag Delana (guitar, also formerly of Bread and Circuits), joined together with bassist Cyrus Comiskey (Drunk Horse) and 3rd (!) guitarist Tyler Morris, intent on saving heavy music from its current state of lackluster purgatory. With the demonic vibe of classics like Bathory, Venom and even Black Sabbath in mind, Barber began to scrawl blasphemous diatribes that'd make even the most thick skinned Christian rockers shiver in their shoes. Meanwhile, guitars were down-tuned, distortion was cranked up, and a powerful, sub-harmonic, rhythm section lay down unearthly grooves.

Kruger - Cattle Truck

2. Speedometer [8:50]
3. I hate this band [6:44]
4. Captain america [3:17]
5. Motorfuck [7:19]
6. Yalta [3:57]
7. I feel you [4:28]
8. The drive run [10:48]

Info

KRUGER joined in 2001, due to the severe inactivity of members of Rude, Sweet Disease, and Sludge. Their debut album was released in 2002, shortly after the band's birth, to ensure them the great pleasure to play live. ♠BUILT FOR SPEED♠, made of 9 mid-paced and heavy tracks, was recorded and mixed in a few days with TVO (Knut, Shora) at the Smelly Room studio in Geneva.

The band spent 2002 + 2003 playing around with the likes of Sleeppers, Isis, Gojira... Then was the time to let bassist Makro leave for his two main bands Sludge and Samael, to welcome a new young man, Blaise, and start working on a second album.

♣CATTLE TRUCK♣ was "home-recorded" in spring 2004 at Bellefontaine Studio, Lausanne and mixed in three days by Fredrik Nordström (Soilwork, Opeth, At the Gates), then mastered by Peter In de Betou (Dimmu Borgir, Entombed, Nine).

Still on the RRRecords, this last record was released in Europe (with distribution in most western territories) by the end of 2004 and was warmly received by many magazines and webzines in Europe and elsewhere.

After some cool shows in 2005 with the likes of Dillinger Escape Plan, Unsane and Cult Of Luna and a memorable apparition at the Fury Fest Festival, KRUGER has cooked a new heavy and loaded dose of modern noise metal for their upcoming and third album ♣REDEMPTION THROUGH LOOSENESS♣ to be released in April on LISTENABLE RECORDS.

The album has been recorded in Lausanne, Switzerland, at Bellefontaine studio by J.Fehlmann and J.Kovaks. The mix will be handled by Kurt ballou at Godcity studios in Salem (USA) and the mastering by Alan Douches in New York.

Fans of MASTODON, CULT OF LUNA, BREACH, ISIS, TOOL and ENTOMBED may find this new piece of sinister and ridiculously loud heavymetal an enjoyable listen...

Giant Squid - Metridium Fields

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tracklist

1. Megaptera In The Delta
2. Neonate
3. Versus The Siren
4. Ampullae Of Lorenzini
5. Summit
6. Eating Machine
7. Revolution Of Water
8. Metridium Field

Info

Giant Squid! No it’s not the title of a Discovery Channel Special (actually it might be but that’s not the point), the point is the Austin, TX band Giant Squid creates a groovy musical chaos that encompasses the senses like it’s namesake wraps around a drowning sailor. Giant Squid has just recently gained the support of indie label The End Records, and are releasing a complete remake of their first album ‘Metridium Field’. Billy Anderson, who is famous for working with other pioneering crossover acts like Neurosis and Mr. Bungle, produced the album the first and second time. This is a pretty big accomplishment for such a new band, and when you hear the sheer musicianship on ‘Metridium Field’ it is obvious why they gained the attention of Anderson.

The first track ‘Neonate’ starts out crunchy, doom laden, and black Sabbath-ish, then careens into almost death metal aggression, with the occasional quiet breakdown. Very reminiscent of crossover giants System of a Down, especially because of the instrumental breakedown (it can't really be called a guitar solo) that has a very Middle Eastern flavor. The track ‘Ampullae of Lorenzini’ is very slow and groovy, with epic, heavy bursts, very much in the vein of Pink Floyd. The shortest song on the album clocks in at six minutes thirty nine seconds (unless you count the fifty second shorts that consist of weird noises and samples), and the longest song at twenty-one minutes and nine seconds, so this is not an album of short little poppy hits; quite the opposite. It is an album of introspective, trippy music that languidly leads the listener into chaos and bliss at the same time. Although don’t let the slowness and length of the songs fool you, this is not some hippy jam band, the songs are very dark and heavy with a definite doom influence.

Fans of the anthemic pop hits on today’s radio would probably not enjoy Giant Squid. But fans of stoner rock, jazz-fusion, and classic rock progression will absolutely love their sound. Giant Squid is gaining attention for their live shows as well as recorded music and one listen to ‘Metridium Field’ will make it clear why. These guys are good players, plain and simple, and not bad songwriters either. They are also not as technical as some modern progressive artists are, so a non-musician can actually listen to it and not feel insane. For kicking back and enjoying a most likely inebriated afternoon, these guys are the perfect listen.

9 - Nous -In my side
10 - Nous -You're trampling on my feelings
11 - Nous -Don't yell at me
12 - Nous -A new illussion

Info

Info

When viewing the landscape of Icelandic music you see a wasteland. Endless blocks of ice entombed in darkness. The four seasons of the year having lost all control of time, the fall and winters long with icewinds, carrying the message of the emptiness from beyond, fierce but still swaying from the occasional green spots where life fights for survival in the fast rising spring, where fruitful plants grow and strange animals run around enjoying the warmth of the short summer.

If you would allow yourself this vision you would see MINUS as the spring, you would see MINUS as the beginning of one of the melting pots of life. Coming up gasping for air, screaming against the facelessness of their surroundings. Standing up to the storm, jumping into the lifeless day with power coming straight from the heart of someone who understands the beauty of chaos. It is that beauty that MINUS thrives on, that is the beauty of everything that is real about life.

Das Oath - st

Tracklist

1. Reliquary
2. Scrapped
3. Twinkle in an Eye About to Be Blackened
4. Tropical Malady
5. Terror, The Delight, And the Unendurable Pointlessness of Trying
6. Years of Veneers
7. All the Songs Have Been Sung

Info

One their most superb effort to date, Das Oath plow ahead on their destructive path, ascending to the furthest reaches of intensity to emerge as the forerunners of classic modern hardcore. With some of their most unpredictable chord progressions and relentlessly chaotic song structures yet, the band has somehow managed to intensify their noise-drenched compositions to belt out one mind-blowing anthem after another. Those familiar with the band's history may find themselves startled by the record's unthinkably lovely and intricate song structures steeped in hooks and chock full of dense musical innovation.

With contributions from Will Killingsworth (Orchild, Bucket Full of Teeth, Ampere), Joey Karam (The Locust, Le Shok), and Sal Gallegos (Some Girls) these seven songs combine to form a complex and haunting masterpiece of emotional frustation and despair. With artwork from renown photographer John Divola, this is sure to be one of the most expressive and important contemporary punk records in years.

Zegota - 7"

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tracklist

1. Sinnerman (Traditional) [6:24]
2. The Anarchist Cheerleader Song [3:58]

Info

The word "zegota" was used as a code name for a group of Polish Catholics who, in the midst of WWII, saved thousands of lives working as an underground railroad for Jews and other assorted outcasts under the tyranny of Nazi Germany. We understand that the word itself means "unity" in Polish. The volunteers involved with zegota put themselves at great risk by hiding out the persecuted in their homes, feeding them, clothing them, preparing false papers for them, and scraping up whatever money they could spare to aid in the fight for freedom. The zegota group was absolutely beautiful. They gave without thought of reward; they risked everything to fight for the cause of humanity. In a time and a place where decisions are made based not on morality or sanity, but on opportunity costs and selfish daydreams, what zegota did was truly an act of beauty, an act of beauty amidst the horror and absolute terror of the holocaust.

When we started this band, we were wide-eyed with optimism, ready to fucking destroy this world with explosive music and honest expression. The music we make as well as the ideas we share have every intention of making this world, yours and ours, a more beautiful and wonderful place to be. We felt inspired and empowered by zegota, everything about it; so we chose their name to represent what the four of us create together. Now that we are older and hopefully a bit wiser (but more wide-eyed than ever!), we realize that our efforts pale in comparison to the sacrifices zegota made. We are just four fellas who roam the earth making music, learning, loving, living, and creating emotional and artistic expression together. Our music is born out of frustration and anger, of being sick and fucking tired of always falling in line and keeping quiet.

In this world where complacence and obedience are ingrained in us from the very beginning, the soundtrack of defiance is beautiful in and of itself.
