Cobra Noir - Barricades

Tracklist

1. Ruptured
2. Walled-In
3. Against Us
4. Manufacturers Of Deceit
5. Come Crashing
6. Monuments
7. The Arsonist
8. Mind Destroying

Info

This is the second full length cd (and first for Chainsaw Safety). This Canadian quintet plays gnarled and discordant hardcore, sounding as dark and brooding as ever. Lyrically, it’s a dredging bleak landscape for remnants of hope. Musically it’s metallic hardcore that is not unlike earlier projects such as THE BLACK HAND. These eight new tracks continue their sinisterly dark sounding assault of heavy drudging hardcore.

The great conquer
Doom

Dragonfire

Info

Wow! This is possibly the greatest band that has come out of Sweden for a long time! Great songs with incredible and technical melodies. A lot of unusual instruments are used to create a new and pretty innovative ambience to their sound on some tracks! The vocals are just amazing, sometimes added to the rageful voice of the singer is the graceful and sweet voice of a woman. This is worth it! Sometimes sounding like old metal bands, the guitars are very well constructed and leads the rythm into a beautiful blend of Hardcore with old metal tappings! Twelve tracks around 45 minutes of intense Hardcore straight out of Sweden! Get it, it's worth it! My favourite tracks are The Realm of Time, The Way of the Hero and Atma.

Catharsis - Eponymous

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tracklist
01] ...In Solidarity [5:18]
02] Fall [4:33]
03] I Corinthians 1:18-29 [5:49]
04] In The Belly Of The Demon [0:57]

06] Our Fight (Confront) [0:52]
07] Protect (Breakdown) [1:31]
08] Ritualized [2:19]
09] What The Thunder Said [4:05]

Info

Catharsis is an anarchist collective bent on the total liberation of ourselves and our world through creative self-expression and self-determination, the annihilation of capitalism, hiearchy, morality, ideology, and human misery in all its other forms, and--above all--the transformation of life into a joyous, carefree game, to be played for the highest of stakes. We release all our music ourselves and distribute it exclusively through a network of friends and colleages. We organize all our performances ourselves or through friends, working to establish a cooperative network of autonomous individuals rather than relying on and thus reinforcing the chains of corporate control that presently constrict the arts in particular and modern human relations in general. We refuse to compromise with these assembled forces of selfishness, apathy, and violence, and insist that every day of our lives be an adventure unfettered by external controls or internal inhibitions. So can you. We struggle for a day when art will no longer be just another commodity to be exchanged for other sterile consumer goods, when both the means of production an all the products therof will be shared openly so that everyone will be free to be an artist and live based on the pursuit of desire rather than ever-increasing standards of mere survival. In the meantime, we do what we can to lead lives outside this merciless system of domination and exploitation as we plot its downfall, and hold in revolted disdain all those who apparently believe it is enough just to sell things and go through the motions of traditions long dead and dry (and thus hostile to all living things). Real life involves more than a beating heart and a functioning liver, of course. It is something that must be chosen, chased, created by those who would find it. Yes, we are idealists, hopless romantics (both hopless and romantic), but this idealism enables us to act while others are paralyzed by their dispair, by "realism" and jaded cynicism. We think we do better to cast our lot with the quixotic madmen, the poets of revolution and absurdity, whatever the odds of success or survival may be. This is a statement of purpose, and all such statements oversimplify, as do declarations and expressions of every kind: but the important thing is to speak, to act, to do something, and let the consequences sort themselves out. So if we live, let's live to tread on kings, to break our bodies and our hearts to keep ahead of death, to dance right through our lives.

Info

God's Iron Tooth is here and no on is safe. The new release from this four piece human earthquake (hailing from Long Beach, CA) has landed like an airplane disaster. Drop B four string death rumbles combined with the breutal skin pounding reminiscent of a headhunter invasion sets the the backbone for GIT's sludgecore extravaganza from Hell. Ear-shattering vocals embedded in the crunch of a Les Paul is the blueprint formula for GIT's letahl concotion that is killing audiences in and around Southern California. Headlining Heretic's fourth full-length skateboarding/surfing film "One Ton Waltz" is only the beginning of the take over. No band is safe. All audiences will suffer physically and mentally. Every eardrum will be blown. The sheer cranium splitting volume of GIT is absolutely astounding. With mid-paced anthems like "Bound With Electrical Tape" and "No Love, Just Noise" to slow, drifting death marches of feedback and distortion like "The Slow Ride Home" GIT will guarantee all horrific cravings will be satisfied to the fullest.

Info

The Truckfighters are back after the split EP with Firestone. Well, I have to say besides the band stealing a couple of ideas from QOTSA this is a damn good CD. It has a great mixture of more melodic riffs and an improvised feel at times. There is way more to this band than the stoner rock vibe. The opening 9 minute "Desert Cruiser" is very cool. While "Gargarismo" is a straight forward desert-fuzz rocker, "Momentum" is much more experimental. "The Deal" is very QOTSA influenced and not that interesting. "Superfunk" is a mostly instrumental number and very melodic but not funky at all despite the title. "Subfloor" has a really cool smooth groove and really gets going halfway through the track. "Gweedo Weedo" is a short 2½ minute track with a sax solo of all things. A very laid back groove that becomes very distorted and then back into the clean. Cool. "Manhattan Project" kicks up into high gear again . In Search of (the) the way the beginning bass lines starts the track is a bit like QOTSA. "Intermission" is a short 2½ minute instrumental that leads into the very cool "Zapruder". "Zapruder" has this really cool bass line and takes us back to the full on psychedelic stoner rock that these guys do best. The CD closes with the melodic "Altered State" at 8½ minutes in length. This is a cool CD. If the band had a bad ass lead guitar player they would be at the top of their field in Sweden!

4. The Ideological Restrictions Of dr. Money
5. I Though We Had Rejected Descartes

7. How Adult Love Stories End
8. Arbeit Ist Scheisse (Keine Aber Auch)

Info

Mönster was formed two years ago people formerly active in Highscore, Born Dead Icons, Insuciety and "Costa's Cake House" who all stayed in Berlin at that time. What was originaly meant as some sort of project became a regular band which was quicky noticed by punks worldwide through their debut 12" "Death Before Disorder", out in 2005 on Sabotage Records. Fast hardcore with notable Scandinavian/Portland sound, good measure of rocking riffs and a classic straight forward hardcore feel which probably comes from the fact that most of the boys have been in hardcore/punk bands the last 10-15 years. The new Moenster record called "Arms" captures the equal urgency of debut record, but also absorbed more melodies and slower songs, which provides them this certain passionate, European flavor. Album comes in a special diecut LP cover and inner sleeve, CD comes with diecut slipcase over the jewelbox and features the mighty iffland on the drums…

A massive 70+ minute album of DEVASTATING doom. These Swedes take the gargantuan riffs of Neurosis, circa "Through Silver in Blood", and present them in the raw, desolate, atmosphere of Grief. While the two vocalists create a combined effect similar to JR Hayes from Pig Destroyer. No keyboards, and only a very few (subtle) samples to lighten the mood here. The only doom / sludge band that compares to Corrupted in sheer ugly heaviness I have ever found. This is one fucking monster

08. Asleep On The Forest Floor
09. Warm Woods
10. Lake Of Virgins

Info

“Cloak Of Love EP” – their debut for Crucial Blast Records – was well received by most critics, but debunkers claimed that GENGHIS TRON’s music was simply Grind pasted between Electronica. Their full-length, I’m pleased to say, is not as susceptible to that particular criticism because much of their latest blends the two rather than forcing them to alternate, and I have yet to hear a trio such as this craft a disc as exciting as “Dead Mountain Mouth.” Still, while I’m a fan, I also must stress that this isn’t for the everyman.

Like I implied, GENGHIS TRON aren’t going to make everybody happy. If anything, though, people will flock to this form of spastic, chaotic divisive music just for curiosity’s sake, and much of “Dead Mountain Mouth” is legally insane – dense beyond comprehension and/or as dissonant as a 20-car pileup. Nevertheless, when the tempo’s not flying past at breakneck speed, the compositions can be dissected with relative ease. At three or four minutes a pop, the 10-track album is, in the very least, an improvement over “Cloak Of Love EP” in the time department, providing these New Yorkers are to your liking in the first place. Whereas opening number “The Folding Road” is a clusterfuck of Grind, Electronica, samples, and harsh vocals, the recognizable keyboard melodies nearly bridge the gap between the EP and the LP. “Chapels” radiates familiarity, too, due in part to the lulls and outright blasting, the latter heightened by the screaming. Unlike the others, however, “From The Aisle” touches on the nebulous NEUROSIS-core subgenre, although the end of “Greek Beds” could pass for Nintendo-laden MESHUGGAH. Perhaps the easiest, most clear way to explain GENGHIS TRON to someone who’s never heard them is tell him/her to imagine the range of dreams and nightmares the average person will have over the course of a year, condense them into one CD, and then just be prepared for the onslaught. There’s nothing quite like it, in spite of the offerings by other groups that tread on similar ground.

So, overall, the promise lurking in the shadows of “Cloak Of Love EP” revealed itself fully on “Dead Mountain Mouth.” GENGHIS TRON aren’t capable of satisfying every Metal fan – especially the diehard individuals who align themselves with specific subgenres like Black or Death and rarely venture outside – but they are nothing less than interesting. This surely isn’t an every day listen for me, though I’m proud to have it in my collection for those times when I long to be the Mad Hatter on a heroin binge at a gathering with Hunter S. Thompson, Godzilla, Andy Dick, Satan, Jack the Ripper, Kirk Cameron, and Madonna. Sound outlandish? Compared to GT it ain’t.

Info

You can count on one hand the bands that are as cool as 16. After a decade of pounding nails into the aural cavities of extreme music fans worldwide, 16 are releasing a new batch of tunes that clearly demonstrate that (unlike most bands) they are not mellowing with age. If anything they are getting more intense, more angry and more raging. Originally recorded about two years ago, it is great to finally see these tunes hit the streets. I was fortunate enough to get an advance of this when it was recorded and, I gotta tell ya, I've listened to it non-stop for the last 24 months. Although often lumped in with the extreme sludge bands, 16 are really a beast of several configurations. Yes, they have the anvil pounding heaviness and distortion of sludge but they are also deformed and ugly like good noise-rock bands. They have the high quality song writing and classic guitar raunch of punk rawk 'n roll but also sport a metal infatuated underpinning that get the ole' neck a thrashing. They may be blood brothers of the likes of EYEHATEGOD but they are the ugly stepchilden of FLIPPER as well. How any extreme music fan can possibly NOT be blown away by this is beyond me. Every time I slip this disc in I end up cranking the volume all the way up and forgetting the world around me... like I am wrapped in a cocoon... a cocoon made of glass shards and barbed wire.

However, this four-member band from Houston gives you almost exactly what you might expect: scary rock n' roll. You can also be sure their live shows are what it's all about. Screaming, heavy riffs, and punk rock menace... They're in that school of Blood Brothers and Dillinger Escape Plan and even got some Rage Against the Machine. Expect to see them soon on the roster of the big traveling festivals. Definitely be on tabs with this band.

6 .Rocky
7 .False Confession
8 .Roll The World
9 .Addiction
10 .When Suffering Became Performing

Info

Undoubtedly when you read reviews of this LP you are going to read comparisons to CAVE IN and ISIS and I wouldn't necessarily disagree with that but the band that keeps coming to my mind is KNUT although I would be the first to admit that SPINNING HEADS has a more unremitting delivery than KNUT. SPINNING HEADS has found a perfect balance between metal, hardcore, and grind. SPINNING HEADS also manages to incorporate a very progressive feel to their music so that the sum is somehow greater than the parts - those parts being glass-gargled vocals, staccato guitars set to kill, and blitzing rhythms. I can't quite put my finger on what it is that elevates this above 90% of the metalcore out there but it might be the unquestionably superior song writing and the absolutely vicious and unrelenting passion displayed on each and every track.

Anoushka Shankar - rise

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tracklist

1. Prayer In Passing
2. Red Sun
3. Mahadeva
4. Naked
5. Solea
6. Beloved
7. Sinister Grains
8. Voice Of The Moon
9. Ancient Love

Info

Personnel: Anoushka Shankar (sitar, keyboards); Sanjeev Chimmaigi, Ritesh Mishra, Rajesh Mishra (vocals); Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (veena); Barry Phillips (cello); Pedro Eustache (bansuri, duduk); Ajay Prasanna (bansuri); Pedro Ricardo Mino (piano); Pulak Sarcar (keyboards); Kevin Cooper (bass instrument); Jesse Charnow (drums); Tanmoy Bose (djembe, tabla); Tapan Raj (programming); Bikram Ghosh (sound effects). Recording information: GR Studios, New Delhi, India (2005). Anoushka Shankar may boast celebrity relatives (she's Ravi Shankar's daughter and Norah Jones's half sister), but her sitar mastery is all her own. On previous recordings, she followed in her father's footsteps by performing relatively traditional, raga-based music. RISE, however, is another animal entirely, incorporating jazz, pop, and pan-ethnic world-music textures in an unpredictable melange. At the center of it all, fortunately, are Shankar's unerring sitar expertise and traditional Indian roots.

Mörser - Pure Scum

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tracklist

Side Scum (2002):

01. 20 Seconds
02. My Life, My World (I Need It Back)
03. Scum / Interlude
04. The Gift

Side Pure (2006):

05. The Indirect Threat (To The World's Freedom)
06. Desperate Attempt
07. Game Over
08. The Way For Constant Flashbacks
09. His Life. His Death

Info

‘Pure Scum’ was supposed to be the soundtrack for the comic called “Pure” , but due to a lot of circumstances this first output on Garden of Exile includes five songs meant for the comic “Pure” and four re-mastered songs from 2002 that were on the sold-out comic “Scum”.

This disc kicks off with the four tracks from “Scum” and like other bands from the German city Bremen (e.g. Systral or Acme) this piece of music is as destructive as a German tank from WWII. With two singers (one for the low vocals and one for the screams) and two bass players they’ve already shook the earth on the full lengths ‘2 Hours to Doom’ and ’10.000 Bad Guys Dead’ and with these two compiled mini albums they do the same. These Germans are outstanding in the two tracks “Scum/Interlude” and “The Gift” with first building up the tension with midtempo death metal parts and ending everything with faster thrash riffs.

The five songs that were supposed for “Pure” are a bit more melodic and sometimes remind me of Arkangel, but with a rough vocalist. Overall this is a unique combination of Death Metal like Entombed and the metalcore of Arkangel, but Mörser never forgets that typical penetrating Bremen-sound. For the full four minutes in “Game Over” and “The Way For Constant Flashbacks” they hold your attention and finally bleed your ears. Not many acts that play this combination can say that nowadays, right?

As a bonus you will get two short comic stories, two previews, a trailer from Scum and a Mörser movie. Unfortunately the videos are in .mov format so I can’t give an opinion on that. The other extras that are on this disc are nice to see for once but I strongly want to advice you to concentrate on the music because these seven German dudes will also break your bones for sure.

A twelve-track collection of psych-fueled and vicious, over-thundering hardcore crust-out copped from some early singles circa '95-'97. Includes a 16-page book cruelly filled with lyrics and the band's most excellent graphic style. Among the scummy elite of today's power-violence scene, DYSTOPIA redefines the meaning of "the great unwashed."

Tracklist

Vulture
Disgust For Mankind
Meaningless
Death To The Sufferer
Drow
The Falling
Spineless
Terror
The End Is Near
Sgt. James Marsh
Terror
Fire
Imaginary Friend

Info

The full length debut from these Lawrence, KS transplants. Now finding Seattle as their home, they have recorded this ten song apocalyptic beast (the CD also has their 3 song EP as bonus tracks, remastered, 13 songs total). With the addition of Lisa from Garmonbozia on cello their sound has taken a turn for the worse, and that is the best news you can hear! Once compared to From Ashes Rise, this is no longer the case. Now they have a Remains Of The Day meets doom (the genre) meets filthy crust thing happening. Recorded at the Autopsy Room by Jesse O'Donnell (Skarp, Splatterhouse, etc.) and has an exclusive CD only bonus track featuring Renae from Skarp.

Raise the Red Lantern - Thunderfuck

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tracklist

01. thrower of stones.mp3 [4:32]
02. wings of fury.mp3 [4:32]
03. fucking temptress.mp3 [6:09]

Info

Raise the Red Lantern grew to create something of their own, after having previous albums being compared Planes Mistaken for Stars or Hot Water Music. They downtuned their guitars and slowed the tempo down, while still maintaining all the melody they used to have. Be ready to hear a band playing at almost excessive volumes with alcohol fueling their riffs. You'll be blown away. This digipak was watercolor painted by Jebb Riley of Doomriders and contains a CD that says Thunderfuck on the bottom. For fans of: Planes Mistaken for Stars, Hot Water Music, Pelican, and Neurosis.

White Mice - ASSPhIXXXEATATESHUN

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Tracklist

1) Foreskin Rug
2) White Mice
3) Limburger Baby
4) Anton Larvae
5) Mousetrap
6) Slo Poison
8) On the Night of Living Brown Trout
9) Dieorhearama
10) Microjackass

Info

Providence Rhode Island's WHITE MICE are a three piece (bass, drums and oscillator) that generate enough round and square wave tones to bring a BONANZA bus of nuns three feet (.91 m) off the ground. Combining the menacing (kinda slouched) posture of black metal with blistering oscillator attack is nothing new, but WHITE MICE bring the game to your hometown. The band does dress like lab butchered white mice when playing live.

Mind you trainspotters looking for the RIYL attack: I say BRAINBOMBS and MELVINS, and similar riffraff but with a different toolset mind you. Churning oscillator attacks, belly-bustin' bass, and demonic wails … rock music rewired for a generation punch drunk on its own fart fumes.

Info
