Recorded in 2005. These 22 songs are fast, angry political hardcore songs as only Seein' Red does them.

Seein' Red has been together for many, many years. They have played all over the world. They have released dozens and dozens of records. And they are a very well known and respected hardcore band. Angry, political, and pissed off... Seein' Red offers a wall of hardcore noise. Powerful music with a powerful message.

What to say about The Infarto Scheisse? Aside from a weird name, this 4 piece hailing from Northern Italy and featuring former members from LA FALCE plays a crazy mixture of noise that’s as schizoprenic as interesting. The Dillinger Escape Plan, Neurosis, Refused: these are only few of the long list of sacred monsters this band reminded me of. With shredding noisy vocals, savaging guitars, completely screwed up tempos and complicate structure, these 7 songs manage to leave the listener stunned and curios at the same time. The lyrics are in italian (but they all have an accurate english translation) and, let me tell you, they result seriously weird. The author must have been heavily involved into psychoanalysis when he wrote them!
The album comes with a very original artwork. After hearing these 7 tracks (plus a Faith No More cover, "Digging the Grave") I’m looking forward to check out The Infarto, Scheisse live soon and see what they’re capable of offering on the live dimension, cause this record definitely well impressed me.

Dark and menacing Swedish crust core from the masters. For people who accuse bands with multiple full lengths of "recording the same record over and over" this release is a testament to band that can continue to evolve and create while sticking to a pure style. It's hard to pin this band down for sticking to a formula, since they were the pioneers of this style. You will hear much of the same raw eneregy of the early releases in this recording. At the same time, you will hear the band explore a darker and more punishing aural terrain. Swedish Käng with a touch of metal influence, heavy and brutal.

Refused Are Fucking Dead DVD

A Reflection: The Death of Belief

“We drove a few hours to get there. And when I got there, everybody in the band was in different places. I think David was probably talking on the phone to Vic. And Dennis was hanging out with Mike Fight. Angry. And you were all scowling, and, you know… Not getting along with each other.

And you know, it was this ridiculous little basement punk show… Sometimes, punk rock is beautiful because it's a reflection of what life should be, in some ways. And sometimes, it's just a stupid clique for adolescents. This show was somewhere in between there. It wasn't, necessarily, the most beautiful and inspiring thing.

We were talking about this before… Like, when it's time to die, who's ready to die as gloriously and nobly as the fact of our mortality demands? Who's ready for that? By the time you die, you're so exhausted and so beaten and so miserable that you can only die. And the night was tragic. I said it the whole way though, that it was tragic because punk rock didn't save our lives. It was tragic because the police beat us down and, you know, prevented us from even having that moment.

And myself… It's been along time now, but I came away from that tragedy with this burning desire to make all the things that should have been there that night, and weren't. To make them real. And to make relationships with people and situations where it was magical to be there. And it wasn't that we were all old, and jaded, and tired, and didn't believe in it anymore. If that was the end of the story… the fact that I was still alive meant that I had to make the rest of my life mean the opposite thing. Wanting that means that you're destined for a lot more defeats. That's not all there is.”

Refused are Fucking Dead is the story of Refused as told by guitarist, Kristofer Steen. From the idealism and rebellion to the fatigue that would eventually be their demise and everything in between. The story of Refused, as told by Refused. It follows the generic rock DVD formula of interview excerpt, live song, interview excerpt, live song… But who cares? For once, it's the story that is the important thing. It's not the song. It's not the live energy that flows out in abundance. It's the story…

The story of Refused. The story of how Refused, the band, and Refused, the music, and Refused, the legacy, all exist side-by-side and, yet, are separate entities. A musical bequest reflected in post-hardcore generica. And an attitude that mirrors the true baseness of punk rock rebellion and how it is so seldom found in all those that call Refused “heroes.” It is the story of how Refused's legacy exists exogenously to the band. It is the age-old dictum of idealism against realism, and how one is always the victor. A story of how practicality and romanticism clashed and how they shattered each other. A story of how beautiful and ultimately, mordant punk rock can be. A reflection of the true self-destructive nature of genius, seminality and that rare-found heroism.

Complete with grainy footage ofThe Shape of Punk to Come live as an extra, Refused Are Fucking Dead exists as witness to both the purity and cardinal futility of punk rock rebellion. The story… the inside story, of the most important modern punk rock band. The story of how one band's musical influence contradicted with their ethos and ethics. The story of vanity, of optimism and ultimately, the self-destruction of insurgence. A story of how the morals and music of revolt are mutually incompatible. Of how rebellion is specific only to time and how music transcends both. Poignantly, a story of how Refused's own contradictions conspired to destroy the very foundations of why Refused ever needed to exist. Ultimately, a story of the death of punk rock. Of why punk rock was never as important as those who believed in it… A story of resigned acceptance. Of a defeat that was carried on and mutated by legacy into victory. And all surely, reflected within the written, piquant black on white comments, right at the very start of the movie...

“Refused existed between 1991 and 1998…”

Fuck the rest of it. Refused are fucking dead.

Info

Here's the debut full-length from this killer Swedish band delivering 11 generally succinct tracks of their menacing His Hero is Gone/Tragedy styled metallic crust punk dissonance with viciously strained midrange growls/snarls. The one glaring exception is the second track, "All Lies", which fuses with "Bring Out the Dead" and nearly triples the total length of the other tracks by running just past eight minutes and dropping tons of instrumental breaks where sludgy midpaced power chord surges shift into faster and more frantic picking patterns and note choices. There are definitely a number of tracks that are a little more straightforward in terms of following a pretty standard attack on the thick, churning D-beat chord progressions with only minimal metal influences seeping in to amp up the heaviness or toss in slight melodic accents, but there are definitely several tunes that deviate from that streamlined approach. The tail end of "Scarred for Life" brings in a hint of sinister piano against some pounding drum fills and repetitious surges of guitar and bass; "Programmed to Receive" is a bleak instrumental dirge with some added strings to provide more of a somber feel; etc. But among my personal favorites, "Hands Out of the Pocket" immediately stands out with its more openly melodic lead lines and over the top relentless energy that includes some quick chugging picking patterns and a catchy sensibility to the arrangements that keeps things moving very well; while "Reminding My Past" feels a little thicker and perfectly balances a sense of in your face heaviness with those same sorts of melodies expressed in "Hands Out of the Pocket", complete with one incredible build towards the end that's among the most intense moments herein. Great work. Closer "Complications" is also awesome with its slow paced clean intro over samples of a rain storm, and the way some of those clean passage return over distorted chords later on is an awesome touch. The recording's fine by me. I might like to hear the guitars given a little more meat to fill out some of the space a little better, but the vocals sound excellent, the drums are hard hitting and have a nice sense of barely raw warmth going on, and the bass pulses away just enough to make its presence known. The guitar tone is pretty damn good as it is and certainly allows for that cold sort of dissonant undercurrent, not to mention plenty of crushing rhythms, but minor adjustments could definitely beef this material up to another level of sheer destructive force. The layout is done almost entirely in black with white text aside from one bleak, foggy landscape across the cover (which almost makes it look like a black metal record), and the lyrics tend to be bleak and depressingly abstract expressions of pain and suffering with underlying hints at a few socio-political issues at times, though not without personal touches: "When you wake up in the dark room don't be afraid you're almost dead this is your final rehearsal playing games no not anymore." I've liked everything I've heard from this band to date, and while this isn't a particularly diverse record when all is said and done, the band possesses a ton of energy and anger, which they communicate well within their song structures, so I definitely dig what they do and look forward to seeing where they take it in the future…
